PC / T68i connection stopped working |

Hi All,
I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone has. This problem is really annoying me. The explanation is going to be long, sorry, I didn't want to leave out anything that could be important.
Yes, I am the same one who posted below that I bought the wrong cable (DCU-11 USB) which won't work with Windows NT. However, while I wait for my new cable I decided to try to get it working on my other computer, a Windows ME Compaq laptop. Installed SE software and USB drivers, enabled the port (COM3) in Phone Monitor, and my synchronization worked first try.
I sync'ed successfully for a couple days. Maybe I should also note that my husband has a Nokia 3650 and a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle, and was also successfully syncing on the same laptop (in a different user account, with different sync software from Nokia).
After a few days of successful syncing, we upgraded our computer to Windows XP Home. After the upgrade, I reinstalled the SE software. That went fine except the first time I forgot to uninstall it, the install failed with some DLL message. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled, which worked. Except at the end of the install I got some strange message, an info window that just said "Purchase" and had an "OK" button - has anyone else installing in WindowsXP seen this? Anyway, the new software seemed fine. I thought it would be cool to try to use the Bluetooth for syncing instead of the cable, so I paired the PC and Phone, connected "Serial Port 1", enabled in MPM the new COM port (COM4) given for "Serial Port 1", and sync'ed successfully that way! Of course it was treated as a first-time sync and I chose to overwrite the phone contacts so I lost my voice dialing and personal ring settings, but no big deal.
After that my husband tried a bluetooth sync on his Nokia just to make sure my settings hadn't messed his up, and everything worked fine with his too.
So far so good! Then I designed a new theme, and following the suggestions of folks on this board, decided to use the Christersson sendfile. Downloaded and installed it (and also PhoneBackup from Christersson). However, it couldn't see the phone! I searched for help on this but the only thing I could find was that MPM must be configured - which I knew it was - as I had successfully sync'ed already. After unsuccessfully messing around with that for a while, I thought maybe I'd try the DCU cable again and see if that was better. So I plugged in the cable (and WindowsXP automatically found it and didn't want a driver update even though I had not used it since the XP upgrade) and changed the COM port in MPM, to the one listed for the USB cable under Device Manager, which was now COM15. However, Sendfile still couldn't see the file. At that point I thought, I would check again to make sure the sync still worked - and it didn't! ACK!
I really really REALLY care about the sync, so at that point I uninstalled the Sendfile, PhoneBackup, and SE software and reinstalled the SE software, did many reboots, tried both the cable and the bluetooth - and no way could I get the MPM to see my phone.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated, I really want the sync to work (and it would be nice to have other utilities like "sendfile" too, but they are less necessary). It worked before so I know it CAN work - but what am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

Have you tried pc connect from christersson?

No, what is PC Connect? Do you have a link? I have searched the Christersson.org site but don't see this one, I see: SendFile, PhoneBackup, PC Control, Themes Creator, ringtone and melody stuff, etc. No PC Connect.
I found the following post on connections with XP: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=13791&forum=18 . I plan on trying some of the things suggested there, such as having Dial-Up Wizard running first. However, in my XP installation I notice I was not given the option of putting Dial-Up Wizard on my desktop, as I was in WindowsME and WindowsNT. Hmmm. Is my install messed up? I will create this short-cut manually and open it to see if that helps.
The other thing is that my USB COM port has been set to COM15 (because the bluetooth dongle took ports 4-14 or so). So according to that post I linked, I will not be able to use the cable with MPM on that port. Does anybody know how I can change it, force it to a different number? Before I upgraded to WindowsXP the USB cable was COM3 on WindowsME. I don't know what COM3 is used for now, possibly nothing, it just "thinks" it has something there as a leftover from WindowsME. Can I uninstall/realocate this port?
Anyway, I am at work now and have to wait until I get home to try this stuff. |

I am sad to report, that after trying everything in that post and more besides, I still cannot get it to work. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, etc many times. I am so sad.
Now there is something wrong with the XTNDConnect package install. It runs to a point, then shows an info window that just say "Purchase" and an OK button. When I click OK it uninstalls the software. This did not used to happen, so I am wondering if there is something "leftover" on my system, some DLL or something, from previous installs?
Again, any help would be appreciated.

I thougt PC control, sorry. There are some programs at MATWEB(I can''t remember the link ) than www.clubsonyericsson.com and SE homepage. The XTDN is free for Ericsson only. I don''t have Outlook(only Outlook Express), so I can''t use it. It''s stupid, but true. I use only modem drivers and need to install them manually. I have win 98se. Drivers are too on www.sonyericsson.com

I don't think anyone can help me, but I thought I'd keep posting in case others have the same problem. But if somebody DOES know something, please tell me!
I am having the worst luck with this. Last night I managed to download FMA ( http://www.eflame.com/fma/ ) and get it to connect via bluetooth. That was cool, although I didn't know how to use the functionality of FMA, anyway it was able to connect and that is the main thing. It didn't work first try, but after turning my phone off and then back on again it worked.
I was still having problems installing the XTNDConnect and MPM (Package 1 from SE). I get some funny pop-up window that says "Purchase" and then it uninstalls MPM again and says, "Reboot and run set-up again" ... when I do, it just does the same thing. After reading tons of threads here I saw some suggestions that this may be caused by WindowXP Hotfix (patch) Q328310. When I go home today I will check and see if I have that patch on and see if it solves the problem to remove it.
HOWEVER, then a bigger problem happened! After playing with FMA for a little bit, I lost my bluetooth connection. When I tried to reconnect, it wouldn't work - the bluetooth software seems messed up. When I click on "My Bluetooth Places" it shows "My Phone Serial Port 1". However, when I double-click on it, it does nothing! It used to pop up a window saying it was trying to connect, at least. I tried right-clicking and selecting "connect" too - nothing. This has been working for days! Why would it stop now? I am getting so frustrated with software just stopping working for no reason. This has never happened to me before with any other software and now it seems like everything is doing it... since the upgrade to WindowsXP. I'm starting to think that was a BAD idea.
Anyone have any ideas? I guess tonight I will try reinstalling all the bluetooth software/drivers/etc.

Hi, I had almost the same problems with se r3a and XP (on win2000 everything was fine...). Then I've installed the r4a, all the packages, and the bt/cable connection worked again. Hope this helps, bye.

Hi elsapo,
Thanks for your post! When you say you had almost the same problems - do you mean ALL of them? Above you can see, I am having a ton of different problems! Did your "My Bluetooth Places" stop working as well, or just your SE software?
Anyway, I was really confused by the R3, R4 terminology as I couldn't find those names on the sonyericsson.com page. Looking at the Software forum at this post ( http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=3497&forum=17 ) I found a link to the R4A Package 4 so I may try that one tonight. Since my software (Package 1 from sonyericsson.com) was called Build 2002 I think it is the same version though (just containing less stuff).

In order to use Sendfile from christersson.org you need to have XTNDConnect working with a COM port (IR or BT) first to your phone. It should have the COM port you are connected in its list of ports to look for your phone.
Package 4 is definitely the one to get.

I had the same problems, no bt connections, and even now I have to try more than once to get a bt connection, but just when the phone changes (t39/t68). The XTND sw is working again and so does the connection with my pocket pc. To send a file I'm using XTND sw, but the backup from Christerson works too, and it has to have the same connection method.

Good news....
After removing the WindowsXP hotfix Q328310 I was finally able to reinstall the Sony package successfully. However, I still couldn't get the bluetooth dongle to work. It wouldn't connect to my phone or even my husband's Nokia. In fact it seemed that Windows didn't even know when it was plugged in and out, no "New Hardware" notification or anything.
After no luck getting it working, we tried it on our other computer (Windows 2000) where it had never been installed before, and even there the OS couldn't detect the new hardware! So we called Belkin support and they said it was defective and we should return it. So, we did that and got a new one (same make and model). Now it works! Finally I have been able to successfully sync to my phone again! Yay!
The only thing is, now I'm scared to try the other sofware (the Sendfile, PhoneBackup, FMA) because that's what I was doing last time when it all stopped working. In particular I was using FMA when the dongle stopped working. Is it possible that the software somehow fried the dongle? I know it is written by someone who posts here (floAt) so I am not trying to offend or anything, just wondering, is that possible? I would like to use it but I am concerned.

Quick update: I decided to bite the bullet and start using FMA again, and it has been fine. Bluetooth connection and Ericsson software is still working great. Whew. Now I can use all software I have tried except "PhoneBackup", I don't know why, but that one never detects my phone (even though SendFile does). Strange stuff.
Anyway, I'm very happy that everything else seems to be working. |
