Not sure, but I think Cybershots count for 1/3 of all 📷🎥 business sales (units sold). I wish they really could give to xperia the cam system of RX100 iv, but lens is 28mm thick while the cam is turned off.

If their compact camera sales are falling off, they need to come out fighting.

Looks like a high-midranger to me but will probably compete with the 5ii.

From Zackbucks he stated its a new high end product and to announce it on global scale. So its probably Xperia pro II with liquid lens (rumored because the advertisement picture look like a lens ) , or curved sensor?

Update : its a phone.

The timing is correct for a Xperia Pro ii, but I doubt that it has anything to do with a liquid lens. Xperia Pro is about delivering pro tools to the pros, not gimmicky tools. Lets see what does it have up its sleeves.

On the other hand, the "Pro" line should showcase their newest and finest camera technology, and not just be a copy of Xperia 1 with added pro-features.

I agree this new release is probably an update of the Pro and I think Sony should focus on features as below:

- Robust casing with full weather proofing. Already pretty OK with Xperia Pro I so only small changes.
- Brighter 4K OLED screen (1000 nits mode).
- Best available mobile camera tech including fast (20 FPS, 60 AF/AE), large Sony sensors on all cameras and latest technology.
- Camera Pro app should include better video support (Cinema pro is fine, but not always necessary to make a project etc.). Must include all video modes up to 4K 120 and offer full control of shutter speed, focus, S-LOG, seamless lens selection etc.
- Include a dedicated Bionz-X chip instead of the software version currently used. Fastest possible image calculations.
- Larger battery. Consider replaceable batteries but probably unlikely.
- 1 TB storage with fast direct WIFI transfer. Include support for fastest possible SD-cards.
- Optimized 5G with support for all protocols/bandwidths.
- Dedicated camera button (of course) and also a dedicated video button.
- Clean camera mode in software - i.e. all other apps than Camera running. No background data, phone or similar disturbance.
- More accessories: Dive casing, support for various mounts (like action camera), remote control, case with 1/4" screw etc.
- Full software support for >3 years.
- Allow for more image AI stuff in Auto mode (like Google Pixel). We are not all pro-photographers, so in most cases I would probably just point-shoot, so this auto mode should be more advanced and perhaps include scene selection (night mode, star mode, HDR etc.).
- Multiple microphones for improved sound recording.

Most of them are already included in e.g. A7-S III, so not impossible to implement.

Don't hold your breath for anything revolutionary here. But it will be a nice incremental update nonetheless. Just be glad Xperia went from two global flagship phones back to three on annual basis like in XZ years.

Small pixels are not capable of high brightness.
I do not know why people complain now when 1, XZP and z5P had lower brightness than 1iii.
Why bring another flagship when they have issues to make current ones?
I hope this device is not a QHD version of 5iii with 256GB and Qi.

If the rumor of Mark 4 is true, main cam and ultra wide would be same specs of one+ 9 pro.
With two primes instead of zoom camera. I hope it has two zoom cameras and not two primes.

Do you guys remember the XQ-BS72 model dropped some month ago?
Anyway, more than one device.
PDX-217 is in limited production and testing,so it should get on ppl hands quick after release, while the other one (PDX-216?) is still in "paper" and no real work yet, maybe for next year.
I heard Sony is very aggressive nowaday, they are prepared to axe any incoming developments if they no longer see it profitable. Like the story of killed PDX-205, promising device but very niche in a sense

Deciphering their codes is easy now but that still doesn't give us the answers. Supposedly in 2020 the canceled model was 5(205) and that's rumored big 10II but it could easily be some canceled revision of 5II. In 2021 it gets even more complex as released phones start with number 3(213) which means 1 and 2 are either some Japanese regional models or some cancelled models altogehter like L5. There is no model 6(216) mentioned anywhere but there is model 7(217) which is supposed to be this device. Model 6 could have been Pro II reskin of 1 III (215) but then they migh have decided that's not good enough and they wanted to enhance it or change it even further so it became another dedicated model. That's just me speculating based off the fact that 1II is 203 and Pro is 204. There is a great chance 217 is based off 215 which means 4K flaghsip display.

PDX-211 is the supposed "L5", spec almost like Ace II. Sony is too cheapass to just build a single phone (Ace II) on a new platform (Helio P35) They always wanted to save R&D cost on new platform, build many model out of a platform as much possible. We might see more of P35 coming soon
"10 plus II" was never developed/doesnt exist, doesnt have a working hardware prototype, therefore not assigned a model number.
Sony Mobile are not keen on killing a incoming device with assigned model number/working prototype in the past. No matter how shitty they were they just keep working on it. I think (as far back to 2016), there was only one rare example of cancelled device, compact phone codename "Oak" with same platform as X compact (Snap 650).
But with the new team, profit first!

I mention 10+ II because last year there were news about a device with SD720 canceled. I wish I could just see photos of prototypes that did not become final phone. 😓. Looking for profits, but they make Ace2 that is not gonna bring any. Because it is impossible for $210 phone with IP68, gorilla 6 on screen to give much per unit.
