@sidneylopsides Exactly my reckoning. It would have to be something that stands well apart from the current technology and this is the only thing that seems to fit the bill.

All the teaser images point to a special camera lens or sensor. My bet is on a curved sensor.
Sony has been developing it for years.
I do hope it is 1 inch though, single-lens camera or else the curved sensor won't matter much to consumers.

I think that a single cam (24/26/28mm or so) would make it as niche as the pro from last year. No one will buy it, even compared to Xperia numbers... |

Lets suppose it is based on 5iii, just different cam system and size.
All rest equal.
I would by this over the triple lens.
To me 26mm is more than enough. 13-16mm so useless. |

It's definitely not useless. Furthermore, most people wouldn't buy a phine with limited focal range when they have so many other options. |

Phones below $500 with 50-70mm cam are too rare.
OEMs choose 13-18mm instead.
Difference between even 13 to 27mm is not much to justify, as 24-27mm to 50-56mm.

The new teaser on twitter clearly indicates something related to the human eye.
So the camera is going to have some excellent hardware. I just wish Sony implements proper software so that the combination of hardware and software gives an excellent result.
P. S How is the design going to be? 2 days left and not a single credible leak.
Is it just a concept device then? Not yet into manufacturing? Does that mean a late 2021 release? |

Why people demand them to do what apple and samsung do? I do not understand this fetish for oversharpening, extreme noise reduction, HDR auto (wrong colours by stacking jpeg, underexposed faces, ghosting).
https://youtu.be/18cAPhfjTzs 15:32 , one of many reasons sony does not use auto HDR.
Teaser could also mean: "AF as fast as the 👁👁", sensor or gimbal stabilization.

They've already done super fast AF and tracking, so I doubt they'd make this much fuss about it again.
Latest teaser is 2 days to go, so I guess that means Xperia 3 isn't likely.

they used curved sensor years ago for perfume style camera

two cam reminded me xz2 premium with monochrome sensor
something like 12 mp 1/1.5" curved monochrome sensor would be nice. |

Xperia AF is still much behind alpha because sensor size different. More light = better AF.
I would not be surprised if it has imx506 (R6) instead of curved sensor.
First rumour goes back to May 2020. The sensor patent is much newer.
Sony Semicon would surely announce production, if it was ready. |

Is it just me it are Sony really hitting that hype drum hard right now? I cant remeber them ever doing this many ads up front.
Best smartphone camera I ever used said one photographer.
I've seen some rumour about it beeing a singel sensor. IF so, i really DO hope Sony uses the tagline "One sensor to rule them all" |

What's the IMX506? I can't seem to find anything about it.

Imx506 = Sharp R6 , 20MP 1".
Killer kombo would be : WRGB curved global shutter exmor + variable f |

- Micro LED 4K HDR 240Hz Display (1,600 nits)
- Graphene battery
- Saphire glass on both sides, high end metal compound for frame
- Curved sensor with liquid lens (variable F, 14-300mm)
- Walkman materials, DAC, amp, advanced microphone system
- Sony made SoC
- advanced front cam (Sony needs sales)
- eSim
I can dream as well 😃

Considering price of micro LED, I would be surprised if we see on phones before 2040.
Curved QHD 120Hz LTPO M panel can be up to $93. |
