Indeed. The Galaxy S 2 for example is a similar device to the Arc(except Dual Core) & both are made of plastic. And yet the Samsung is miles ahead in terms of camera etc. And why do I never hear of other manufacturers phones cracking?? Only This cracking Arc issue is yet another device like in the past that they release that seems to crack or fall apart. Sony is not what it once was imo. Samsung look to be the new big boys of the future if not already is. @Rikken

hmmm...in my opinion I still disagree regarding the camera looking on by 40" TV the pictures look alright, yeah it's not the best, but why would it be? Though I do agree, the file size is pretty pathetic, one of the reasoning I guess they do this is to do with the speed at which it takes shots. I mean it's literally click and ready to go again? So the smaller the file size the quicker it can load? I mostly view my pictures using Windows Photo Viewer on my 22" monitor and they look fine, if I need to zoom in, I likewise don't see that much of an issue yeah there is noise but it's not that bad (in my opinion) and its after you've zoomed in a good bit...

Also you mentioned noise in the shots, I do notice this when taking low light shots without the assistance of the light, but I love those sort of grainy dim lit shots, which if stuck with another phone e.g. the SG2 it would come out much darker.

Ah,so that's why the cameras on the Arc,Neo & Mini are so fast. Small file size The Mini files size is stupid like some were 900kb I have an LED 24 inch Samsung Full HD pc monitor & I can see every single imperfection.

How does something like this look?

I mean when you zoom in a lot I do notice noise, but I am perfectly satisfied with that shot I wouldn't really expect much more from a camera phone, IMO

Edit: how do I upload the photo without compression?

Well, all digital censors produce noise. I am actually impressed by having a small phone(Neo) taking great pictures at 8 mpix, who would have guessed that 10 years ago. No camera shoot great pictures all the time
Regarding build quality I have had no problems neither with my previous Arc or my Neo and SGS II

That was with my arc, though admittedly the file size was one of the larger 1.7MB

I get over 2MB size photos with my Aino in 6MP mode and almost 3MB size in 8MP.
Aino has a great camera imo.

Agree with Bonobox, Sony sensors have inconsistent image quality, even in their digicams the HX7v and HX9V compact long zoom cameras are nowhere compared to Canon which constantly outperforms them. long ago Sony and canon are neck-to-neck with the Cybershot vs Ixus/Powershots hence the reason why they lead among the rest. now even my compact 2010 model 4x Olympus 14mp camera with 1/2.3" CCD digicam can give more details than a 1/2.3" 16mp Exmor-R Sony HX7v in resolution charts. I now wonder what happned to the Exmor R sensor Sony is very proud to introduce. If there is a phone brand to envy in camera that would be Samsung, almost all their phones have great image quality starting with innov8 up to now. ironically in digicam/SLT/DSLR category they were not good.

Just 3 random posts from the net regarding other brands issues.

It's not just SE !

Bonovox I think it's time you switched to a Galaxy & be done with it coz clearly you won't be happy with any SE you buy.

Good questions B, but hard to answer them. I asume they became greedy and learnt how to earn big money with small effort.

I also have a Sony HX9v which is very expensive compact. Whilst it has great video recording the picture quality is just so overly digital. Really horrible at times with lack detail. For the high price Sony seem to be just concentrating on gimmicks rather than actual quality. Even my dads Sony Blue Ray player is dead before warranty is up. My Panasonic is still going strong. Though it cannot be just Sony as Ericsson could be to blame for poor build or design. As for Samsung in mobile terms image quality is great but also they are now competing with the big boys in the dedicated camera world. The likes of the Samsung EX1 which i once had was an amazing quality camera with an f1.8 lens.
