Hi
You are confused in this term. The files don't get patched. The files(camdrivers, acoustics, customs, etc.) are uploaded to the phone's FS only. The patches, are files too, but these go to the MAIN. Applying patches can be translated to patch your phone.

as long as the camera driver is intended for your model then yes because it doesn't matter what your phone's current firmware is. THIS will tell you how  (but its not patching because you're only changing the file system... not the MAIN  )
But you need to flash your phone if you want to change anything on the MAIN (applying patches) rather than the FS (file sytem) as tranced was saying
