Is it possible to do file transfer over WiFi? |

Hi, I recently purchased a W715. It connects just fine to my wireless LAN and I would love to be able to transfer files (photos / video) from the phone onto the server.
Can I set the phone to do this, or is there an app similar to SymSMB, which is used by symbian phones?

I found an FTP option....

The demo works and I can FTP files to the server from the phone - no problem.
I would much prefer to do this the other way around though - from the computer, connect to the phone via FTP.

I dont know if it can be done, but i think if you can see the phone from the computer, you could have access to the memory card, as if you had the phone connected in mass storage mode.
Have you tried that?

Thanks tranced, that worked for my W715. In fact that tutorial matches how I had it set. It's just I was trying to access the phone form a linux PC. I switched on a windows PC and the access worked immediately!
I just need to solve the linux problem now. |

Very interesting, the W995 has the network sharing (over wifi) option too. For utilizing this facility you need this on Linux :

Samba replicates the functionality of a Windows file server, it should be possible to mount the W995 provided the Samba server component is running on your linux box. |

My particular problem was due to a bug in the implementation of Samba in Ubuntu, in that share browsing doesn't work. I've fixed it now, and thanks anyway NoroBiik.
The bug means you can connect to samba hosts, and you can mount folder shares if you specify them directly, e.g.
smb://192.168.0.5/Internal memory
But if you use the Nautilus file manager to connect to 192.168.0.5, it reports "Failed to retrieve share list from server".
This bug confused the issue for me re connection.
The way to work around this is to add the phone's network name and its IP address as a distinct entry in /etc/hosts. It seems nuts, and there's no logic why this would help, but it does. So if anyone has the same add a line to each client's /etc/hosts like:
W715 192.168.0.5
But with:
Your_Phone_network_name your.phone.ip.address.
I hope this helps someone else.
