how do you guys deal with headset detection problem? I am having one with my W980

Wipe the connector with a clean cloth or better yet ,alcohol swab. It might just be dust preventing proper connection. If it persists, the internal part might be damaged. Apparently the newer fastport (wider compared to A1 phones) is prone to wear and tear damage due to poor design (something about some thin, flimsy part being used which would easily break with force), an SE technician friend of mine disclosed

Thanks mode! Will try this at home later. any specific criteria for alcohol? like isopropyl or anything?

I'm not too sure about the optimal types of alcohol but the common CD cleaner should work best

@mode.... that you have a W800i it still does not say you know how to use it ...

you can not put the W995i in the same setting as the W800i cos the W995 has a poor version of so called equalizer ... with 3 steps up and 3 down.... the equalizer of the W800i is 8 steps up and 8 down, the sound get much more effected by it then in the W995i ... the W995 has also so called clear bass... now it is so clear that you can hardly hear it!, the megabass of the W800i is too hard but with the real equalizer i can fix it .

not only that the volume is also about 30% lower then the W800i

i did not talk about battery life that with 3G is empty in the evenings.

some people get blind when they own something and try to tell me that it is me that got it wrong, sorry this phone is not so good as some make it and i have the right to say it,have 5 phones from SE at home and this one is the worst.

this is the setting i use in the W800i

and that's all the familly

got it! thanks!

My W980 has that error. It can't recognize the headset. But when I plug the charger, it easily deos recognize it. I brought the phone to an authorized repair shop. I only got the phone a week ago, and here goes the error.

do you think replacing the port would solve this?

AFAIK the pin connector realigning thing worked for the dinosaur Ericsson phones eons ago Perhaps what mallacra's refering to is probably using a needle to scrape off any residue that may have collected and hardened with humid air in between the pins on the fastport connector. Forgot to mention that works too, may sound a bit brutal but that's how SE technicians get rid of tough residues in between the pins, works like a charm every time

Of course I can and I have compared them apple to apple for instance if I use 1 step up for W995 I use 3-4 steps up for W800 which would produce a similar sound. I will try your equalizer when I get back and I'll show you mine as well, maybe we can compare notes

The older fastport connector is definately better and a lot easier to replace. On older models they just clip onto the main board wheras on newer models (W880 onwards) the fastport is soldiered onto the main board and very little soldier is used on the connector pins making a very weak connection. Older Samsungs also had this problem.

the build of the s700 feels lovely, perfectly weighted keypress, solid slider that locks in place with a satisfying click, rock solid battery cover, very good camera cover etc etc.

My S700 still works to this day eventhough it was out of commission for a while after getting soaked with pool water (the same thing happened to my P990 as well, that too is still good and healthy to this day). But just in case it would die on me, I bought myself an S700 test set from my SE technician friend which is still in excellent condition, I'd frame it if this act isn't considered as overdoing it
