G705 is quite cool phone, ive tried several times. the slider is actually pretty solid, (not super solid, but there is not many super solid sliders out there)

what ever you do, dont buy G700, its just hideous. its such a different between G700 and G705. cant even understand why the named G705 in same series as G700, it make no sense.

I got my G705 a few days ago and until now no real problem with it. The location and navigation in menus has a bit changed but it's still a Sony Ericsson. It doesn't have EMS which I find very strange. The phone is fast and stable (no restarts until now). Videos plays very well, sometimes a short lag in audio but it catches up quickly. GPS can work standalone. Sound through speaker is better than W910. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the screen, white appears yellowish and colours are not reproduced properly (compared with my W910 screen).

Ok, I could not wait any longer. Last night I've updated my phone to R1EA033 from R1DE034. The phone is very responsive now despite that it was quite fast on previous firmware.

Here are improvements noticed.
- Menu animation are SMOOTH, navigation is faster.
- Slider Open Counter added in service menu.
- Better GPS reception. A did a test inside the house, I noticed it is able to connect to more than 5 Satts.
- I'm not sure about this one. It didn't seem that it was there in DE034, but in new firmware the Calculator has a Unit Converter.

That's all for now. Hope not.

Sony Er. doesn't publish any changelog so nobody knows for sure.
You just have to find out by yourself

I took a deep breath and did the backup procedures before I proceed with updating my phone to R1FA035 from R1EA033. I didn't notice any changes except for:
-Google Maps v3
-Video call driver 3.7
-Slider Count in service menu (was Flip Count in R1EA033 and didn't work) and still doesn't work.

Perhaps this new firmware is aimed to provide more stability?

@piflechien
In 035, I can't turn on USB Charging in service menu. Can you?

Seems like the latest is still not released in asia ? It still says my firmware R1DA034 is the latest and it is not a branded phone.

Didn't try the USB charging, but the bug has been also reported with the R1FA035 of the W995 FW. So i guess it's global for the whole DB3210 plateform

I'm looking closely at the G705 for my wife. What I'd like to know from G705 users (or users of any SE wifi phone actually) is can you setup push email to work on wifi only so there is no 3G data download charges? We have wifi at home but don't want any unexpected surprises on our bill from 3G data downloads.

We can't just disable 3G because we need it functioning for other location based billing services we subscribe to.

I use Exchange email via ActiveSync on my G705 over WiFi and it works without a problem.
