Hi all,

If we'll be able to download GPS map of a region, and then connect our cellphone to a bluetooth GPS signal receiver, this means that we'll be able to have GPS running on our cellphone (without the need to access internet from time to time to retrieve map information).

Have anyone done something similar on their SE phone? esp K800i?

Thanks!

for non-smart phones, i don't think it's possible to download map information for pre-stored maps. At least as far as I'm aware, there are no FREE or even the pay GPS applications that will allow you to pre-store maps on a non-smartphone such as K800. I run Wayfinder on my z710 and it requires internet and trust me, i searched all over to find a way to prestore maps as the internet usage during GPS times sucks my battery dry. My data is unlimited, so I don't care about that... but the battery usage is sometimes an issue.

I know that wayfinder allows you to prestore map information for smartphones running symbian. Not sure what other apps/companies do.

How about searching for J2ME applications that utilize GPS and downloadable/renderable OpenStreetMap data/files?

Such as these? (GpsMid, & Mobile Trails Explorer)

"GpsMid: This is a Midlet for use on any J2ME enabled device, primarly for mobile. It displays a simple map, with the actual position at the center..."

There's a free product called TrekBuddy that allows you to have ore-stored maps. You have to create them yourself, but you can also download ones other people have setup. There are several webs sites that give all the details if you google (there's wiki one that good). You can also create your own screen to display just the info you want. I've got it running on a K850 so I imagine the K800 will work as well.

Ah true... i forgot about a few of those. but I also remember why i didn't choose to go that route.... because the maps don't look so great. I personally enjoy the 3D view...

but to each their own. I tried Nav4all... worked great, but again, didn't like the maps.
