I think...
I've applied at almost every shop in my town and I hear nothing back at all, to name a few;
Currys
Comet
Pets at home
block buster
hughes electrical
Erm, about 3 times as much as that but i've fergotten.
Anyway I don't understand why they never get back to me, or when they do it's just a 2nd class letter in the post saying on yer bike.
The only interview I had was back In jan and that was for an ICT Technician at a private middle school, I was in the last 3 and they picked some woman (prrft )
Even the local spar and tesco turn me down, that's just insulting lol.
Now, at a local store called Godfreys they apparently had a sign up saying they're looking for people with excellent IT skills to come and work at their Online store.......Mum got me a form and I'll fill it it tonight and had it in at 11am tomorrow.
I got A's in IT in high school, done ICT for 3 years at sixth form and got the highest grades, then done another year of ICT at college and then I done 8 months of Cisco CCNA1...However I didn't like it and done 10 tests and not the last 1 so I didn't pass (although I have a letter saying I have passed so I may lie)...Don't know why, the college just sent me a congrats on passing letter lol.
Also run my own site and get paid to do side jobs such as installing people's home networks and building them computers.
So In theory I should be a good match for this job, but I bet they take 1 look at my math grade (F) grr...and also see that I have never worked before and will just go for someone who can *prove* their experience.
Do you think I should write a letter with the app form I have explaining my experience in full?
Want to get it across to them

I went through a period of bad luck with work years back. But yes do what you just said when applying for work do everything you possibly can to improve your chances. It sucks though i think when some employers dont even give you the chance of an interview. Good luck mate. |

ring them up, if they say that you need to complete an application form, tell them you have done, more often than not they will invite you for an interview.
At the interview it helps if you have a general idea of what the interview might look like. just incase.

Cheers guys, will have to try my best, all that can be done really.
I have an appointment with a personal advisor or something tomorrow assigned to me by the job centre to help me out so will see what he comes up with, but I think they just want me to go on some course to learn a skill I have no interest in and get me any old job going.

I think sometimes in life you get to a point where you have to lie. So add some fake work experiences and get some references if you can. It helps a great deal.
A friend of mine applied for a job at PC world couple of years ago and I made up the reference for him and he got the job.. Experience is essential for every job you apply for these days and that really sucks

Do you work at the JobCentre by any chance PK? Clinical answer.
Offer yourself for unpaid work for a couple of weeks, they may take you on but if not; you have something on your CV. |

I get interviews no probs for retail work,

atm im working as a Volunteer for Save the Children this way im getting the experience for this role and I should be able to get a decent job soon
if you have no experience at all I suggest you volunteer also,
it's very rewarding give it ago

Yer I look on the site often, so many say "experience required" which is pretty unfair as you need to work to get the experience in the first place.
My mate had less qualifications then me and way way less IT knowledge, in fact I taught him most of what he knows and we both went for the same job, he got it and I didn't....he did however have about 6 jobs under his belt and I had none.
I'm looking at a form for an IT job now, but my mum just chucked it at me and said here this place is looking for people...but that doesn't help, for example it says position applying for:.........
Well I haven't got a sodding clue!
Then it says, why do you want this position and why would you be good at it..........I don't know as I don't know what the position is lol.
Is it online support
website maintenance etc, I don't know
The thing is as well, I feel I'd own an interview, I don't mind talking to new people and having conversations, I don't get nervous from it, however when I fill in app forms I over think them and end up getting into like a panic because I don't understand something fully and think sod it they shouldn't ask stupid questions, which I guess isn't the best way lol.
The job centre is a shamballs though and should be ashamed of themselves, it's like a rule that everyone who works there mustn't know how to use a computer, and they're only allowed to type 4 words a minute.
4 weeks ago when I went, she didn't even open my log book, she just said "Hi, has anything changed"
"Nope not yet"
"Ok then cya in 2 weeks"
I kid you not, that was that...well worth the 45min walk to town in the rain!
On Tues when I went again, he said, lets have a look if there's anything suited to you......Oh, wait, the computer has crashed, we'll just do it in 2 weeks time then.
Right, well done, thanks for the help!
And the thing is, I see the same people there every week, and I'll be harsh, they're not looking or even trying to get work, they're scum and dress like scum, they sit there, swear out loud, you get 16 year olds in there with babies etc and I think to myself I don't want to be associated with people like that.
And I think that's why the people there can't be bothered to help, because they see you've been coming for months and think that you probably can't be bothered, so why should they.

Don't worry too much.
The secret to success?
Find something you're really good at and then work damn hard at it.
Thats what someone told me anyway. Of course the hard part is finding out what you are good at, thats the challenge.

Always wanted to be a police officer, my uncle was one his whole life, around 32 years and had to retire due to cancer which he died of.
I'd love to do it and there's no reason why I couldn't, I was maybe a bit too unfit before but now I'm fine.
My local force were recruiting for 3 months, so I filled in the huge form, was around 10 pages long, got a letter back saying thanks we'll keep you updated, even if you don't get through to the next round.....So one way or another they are going to contact me, but they did say it will take months...and it has been around 2 months now
But I'd love to do it and I feel I'd be really good.
Watch just above every police show on TV there is, love it!
Even went to a career day with a small group from high school years back to show my interest.
But apart from that, I'm good with computers and that's about it tbh, I have no trade skills such as a bricky, welder, plumber, electrician etc.

I have a good job these days for past ten years. Anyway it gets me when employers say they want someone with experience. How is anyone these days supposed to gain experience if no one takes young inexperienced people on. Crazy. This might sound odd but i have noticed at interviews in the past that alot of employers seem to also be impressed if you find out and know a bit about the company your going for an interview with. I have always been asked in the past what do you know about the company question. Helps i think. |

I agree mate, a few jobs i've seen which I thought I'd be good at and then read on and seen that crap sentance "experience required" or "experience not essential, but is preferred" which means anyone with minimal experience would more then likely get the job over me.
Grrrrr can you believe that AGAIN my alarm went of and in my sleep I turned it off and fell back asleep and woke up at 11.10....my meeting at the job center was 11.15, so phoned up and was completely honest and they said it's no problem and to come in next week.
I've done this a few times now, in my sleep, when the alarm goes of, I turn it off and hide the phone somewhere, this time is was under my pillow.
My sister said she heard the alarm go off and wondered why I didn't get up.
Odd eh.
