Hi all,

Have any of you managed to get streaming media to work on your k850?

I've been trying for a while and keep having the same problem. After I find the content I want to stream, I get the messages "Connecting to media server" and "connected to media server", then the media player comes up but nothing happens after that. I've tried m.youtube.com (from the browser and from the Java applet), zoovision.com and test.orb.com.

I thought at first that it was a problem with my carrier (Cingular) blocking the content, but I've also tried the same things using my home internet connection via the USB cable and it still doesn't work. This makes me think that perhaps it's a problem with the phone itself?

I've been experimenting with using wireshark to look at the ethernet packets that the k850 is sending and receiving while they pass through my computer. What I've noticed is that after the media player comes up, there is a steady stream of "RTCP Receiver Report" packets from the k850 to the media server (about 3 or 4 per second), with no response from the server. It is during this time that the media player looks like it is doing nothing.

Have any of you been able to get streaming media working on your k850?

I'm using R1DA038.

If you can't stream media over your 3G network, can you try connecting your k850 via USB to use its internet connection and report?

By the way, if you haven't noticed, when you set your "streaming settings" to an internet connection on the k850, there are two tabs: "mobile connections" and "local connections". I have been using "USB Ethernet" from the "local connections" tab when attempting to stream media with the wired USB connection. I've also disabled Windows firewall so I don't think it's a problem of the packets getting blocked by some firewall.

You can check out my thread on the subject: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=160784#post2228982

I am able to stream pretty much anything BUT mycast.orb.com. I can get the videos on test.orb.com without a problem and I can stream from blueapple.mobi (Youtube re-streamed via 3gp from flash). I am also on AT&T's network however I have an OLD AT&T (Blue) account so I'm not sure it's the same as yours. So far I suspect my problems with streaming media from my home computer have to do more with the 3gp encoder I'm using, which is QuickTime Alternative as recommended by orb.com themselves. I really hope I get this resolved because I kinda got used to being able to listen to music from home on my 8525 and now that I don't have this feature I'm rather disappointed.

Tervel: that's great news. I have lots of questions to ask you.

1) What firmware is your k850i?

2) What's AT&T Blue? Do you mean you were an AT&T customer before the merger with Cingular?

I am using wap.cingular to access the EDGE/3G network.

3) But that's all sort of secondary at this point because I can't even get streaming media to work with I use my home internet connection. Can you try connecting your phone to your computer via the USB cable and using the "USB network via computer" feature? Then, can you still stream from test.orb.com? Are you then able to stream your own media from that site?

Got your PM, I want to keep the discussion on the board so that if we come across something everyone will benefit from it and if not, perhaps people will see the discussion and join in. To answer your questions:

I have the 037 firmware, I am using APN of proxy (mmode) to access the GPRS/EDGE/3G service because indeed I am a pre-cingular merger customer aka "blue" because the sim cards back then were dark blue. I have never tried to browse the web on my phone through my computer connection, never saw a point to it really (I mean - if you're at your computer, why bother) but I see what you're trying to do - find out if the cingular wap service is blocking the streaming ports. There are several discussions on this at cingular's forums but they are mostly inconclusive. I have posted the orb question here, on cingular's forum (now AT&T) and on orb's support forum AND I've opened an incident with orb's support.

I will see if I can get the internet through USB setup but I'm a little doubtful it'll work at the moment since I'm at work and behind a firewall that seems to block quite a few ports...

Tervel: Yup--that's me that posted on that cingular thread.

Anyway, it sounds like you've had some successes. If you don't mind trying connecting your phone to your computer via USB and trying to stream video, that would help me decide whether I want to try downgrading my firmware to 037.

Thanks!

Any update on this? Has anybody gotten streaming to work with an AT&T (new) sim card? using cingular's settings?

Thanks!

I have the same problem with my newly-acquired k850i. (I bought it in a local store while my Nokia N95 is in for repair).

I believe this is a problem with the phone/media player in conjunction with AT&T (orange, formerly Cingular).

I cannot stream (from m.youtube.com, test.orb.com, or anywhere else) to the phone, whether I use a connection profile with a streaming proxy (wireless.cingular.com, port 80 or 8080) or not.

However, I *can* stream from my MacBook Pro, tethered through my phone via Bluetooth -- only if I set a streaming proxy in the System Preferences (wireless.cingular.com, port 8080). This means that it is not as simple as "blocked ports".

Also, streaming works fine on my N95 (which uses RealPlayer for this purpose), and on my previous MOTO RAZR v3xx.

Further, I was doing a "netstat -n" on my MBP while tethered though my phone and playing from m.youtube.com; I found that it was using UDP port 554, a.k.a. "rtsp", for streaming. Dunno what the phone itself is using (maybe UDP 7070?).

In any case, this pretty much settles it for me; even though it turned out that the N95 repair is not covered by warranty, I am getting a new N95 and returning this k850i. (This streaming bug is not the only reason, but it is significant).

I have been trying to debug the same issue on my W610i with streaming mycast.orb.com. My case is most similar to Tervel's. I have Orb 2.0 set up on home PC. Streaming to client PCs works fine in rtsp:// (3gp/sdp). My phone has no problem streaming from test.orb.com, which proves my service is working. I have T-Mobile Total Internet VPN (with internet3.voicestream.com as APN). I can stream zoovision, and many other rtsp URLs without any problems.

So it seems to be some kind of problem with the streaming format or runtime issue with Orb 2.0 on my PC, that my W610i couldn't handle.

I was able to do streaming at one point with my W800i. I need to go back and try it.

I can't stream from any website like you guys. I have a K850 with Claro and seems to be not an operator issue but more like a phone/firmware issue.

As one of you stated, I think has more to do with the RTSP port being in use rather than our operators blocking certain ports.

I would like to watch some TV while on the Bus, and in my previous nokia 6120 classic I used to stream from m.youtube.com.

did you guys managed to find a solution to this?
