@jet - I am very at EASE and USED in using video-files in 3gp format for my fones . . . then and NOW.
If you want some video-file-conversion . . . try this:

...which doesn't actually answer the question...
3gp is a subset of mp4 and so the quality is less but the payoff is that it is smaller
take your pic.. size or quality?

@masseur - I think the header states VERSUS So, I will choose WHAT then - right? When you ask: David VS Goliath What will your response be or to make it more simplier and in laymen's term . . . Nokia VS . . .
So, my reply WAS: 3gp !
I always OPTED in using that as a video-format in my camfones . . .

your reply did not give any comparison (as in versus) between 3gp and mp4 with reasons for why you choose one over the other.
instead, you simply say that you find 3gp *easier* to use due to this link you have found and posted in many discussions
in these days of large memory sticks I prefer mp4 for the reasons stated although I still do have a large back catalog of video that have been converted to 3gp

I thought 3gp was invented long before mp4? Its a different standard so how can it be a subset of a later standard, unless its 3gp2 (or 3gpp)?
I think I gotta do some reason on this. |

I recently tested some encoded clips from a new program and 3GP and mp4 were both the same quality wise. MP4 was a bit bigger in file size but thats about it. It all depends on what format you use. 3GP or MP4 is just the container like AVI or mpeg. It really depends on what its encoded as. It could be Divx, xvid, h263 (most common for SE phones) or H264 (doesnt work well on SE phones as only the top ones have ability to play this but its low baseline).
H264 is the best. Whether thats in 3GP or MP4 doesnt create that much of a difference to be honest.

Exactly, both of em are containers. They hardly influence the quality of the stream.
and 3gp is a subset of mp4.3gp is simpler and was made with mobile devices in mind. |
