Thought I could hear a buzzing!! Washer was on and something was buzzing, Damn it was my other half`s W880 on the inside of the washer buzzing against the glass of the washer Its had a soaking for about 40 mins and was buzzing constantly, doesnt sound good but maybe, just maybe with a strip down and clean with some contact cleaner or something it might come to life, is there a strip down guide anywhere for the W880???
Ta
Ps - What do you think the chances of resuscitation on this drowned W880 are?? |

Here's something on how to get the cover off it

I think you have a fair chance of recovery. Let it dry out for a few days and try again.

Got the front off, hair dryer on it as I type
Anyone know if tis a good idea to remove the keyboard and screen? Keyboard seems alittle reluctant to move as its attached into the area where the charging port mounts. |

Had it stripped and on a radiator since yesterday, this eve built it up and tried to power up but its dead compleatly stripped it down, totaly removed the main PCB and removed the 2 shielding plates that cover the chip sets in either side, the damage caused by the water/detergant combo looks extensive white/green fuzz all over the place! Amazing how it happens so fast to unprotected soldered joints.
RIP this W880 |

Sorry for giving you false hopes. I thought the phone was in fact able to show some sort of life when you got it out of the machine. Usually this means that they can be saved. If not, then there's not much to go for

woudnt write it off just yet, the damage will be fixable, get some wd40 and a toothbrush and scrub away the muck.
Charge battery in another phone and put it all back together, you have a 33% chance it will be okay I would say.

Done! Used Mech Oil (similar to WD40) and to clean that off some rapidly evaporating alcahol based brake cleaner, its now sat ontop of a radiator drying once again.
It looks alot better but time will tell if it will power up again.
Thanks for the suggestion! I never thought of that
EDIT: We now have a flashing red power light which changes to a slower flash when the power button is pressed.

Update: I think now is the time to declare this W880 a total loss tried the oil + scrub + degrease again to no avail, c orange power button light flashes when the charger is in and the battery out but thats it, no other sign of life, I even tried my K800 battery in it but no joy.
My old W800 has swung back into action as a replacement |

i agree
try updating the erom (if possible) or see if you can get your computer to detect it by pressing+holding 2 while you plug in the data cable. if you get a found new hardware wizard pop up, install the flash drivers and attempt a reflash

I know someone who have had similar problem with K750i. After days of drying, they just put in a NEW BATTERY and phone light up.That happend almost two years ago, phone is still working.
Try to do that. Just give it some time and than try it again. |
