Hi everyone,
I understand that the K850 has been rather disappointing until now. However, I don't think you should keep on comparing SE with Nokia.
I don't think they have the same experience in business and the same financial clout unfortunately.

Now, put in perspective SE's latest batch with what Samsung, LG or Motorola have been producing lately. I'm certainly not saying that SE is giving us better devices than those of the other manufacturers, but the competition between these four is certainly tighter and fairer.

Nokia has been on top for years and will remain for a long while (unless Apple does an Ipod on them).

That being said, it is certainly not an excuse for the devices launched lately with all these bugs (P990, K850, I'm looking at you).

On this, I'll wish SE the best for 2008.

where has the camera legacy of gone? through the years they have produced the best camera phones. k700 (vga), S700 (1.3mp), k750 (2mp) and k800 (3mp). now in the 5mp battle, they are losing. i think thats the disadvantage of the cybershot branding. has to be careful not to eat some market share of SONY cyber shot digicams. otherwise, people would really be wanting to buy a SONY ERICSSON cybershot that can make calls, play music, browse the net etc instead of a SONY cybershot stand alone digicam. Nokia doesnt manufacture digicams. so they are bolder and more aggressive.

well we could put it this way. k850 is not yet RIP ( as in resting in peace). k850 is just comatose. so a miracle is needed to revive it and bring it back to life

That can easily back-fire. If SE produces crappy Cyber-shot camera phones then people will associate Cyber-shot with crap (basically replace the 'o' with an '*') and hesitate when they see the same label on a Sony digicam. After seeing K850i photos I would be less likely to buy a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera.

well my point is just that hasn't been that bold in their camera phones. not unlike nokia which has no digicam line to protect. So nokia can use good qualitative CZ glass lens (carl zeiss though is tied up with nokia so can't use them BUT CAN use SONY lens anyway), good video recording ( still is stucked in the aged 176x144 video, in an effort to save good video recording to a possible HANDYCAM branded handset?), optical zoom etc. Its good though BESTPIC was implemented in k800 and k850. Now that n82 and g800 have xenon flashes themselves, what edge does cybershot phones still have?

I was just going to say that, Nokia has nothing to lose, because they only produce phones, and Sony from Sony Ericsson has their own market of all kinds of video and digital cameras, from P&S to DSLR, and video cameras.
We were all expecting a true K750 & K800 successor, but we have to face it that sadly that's not our long awaited K850i.

i don't care if one mobile company gives out a phone which has a 5" scren, 10mpx camera, GPS, Wi-fi... if the battery life is shorter than 1 day!

Where did you read that the N82's battery lasts less than a day? Or are you just assuming and telling everyone your assumptions as facts?

N95 has almost the same programs that N82 or shouild i say, N82 has more programs. the battery is not much better than in N95.
i'm asuming from this.

are you sure K850 is RIP?

Elite? Since when the K850 is elite? It's just a 'nice' java phone and a mediocre camera-phone at best, one task it was meant to do well, it fails at. On the other hand, the 'N series' is on a total different level. Combining the latest and greatest from a S60 smartphone platform, WIFI, GPS and now even a XENON flash, all that in the palm of your hand and about the same size of a regular java SE K850. That my friend is ELITE!

I agree with dogmann - RIP K850i, the little phone that could be ...

Literally, Where in the post have i said that "K850 is elite?" (ooops dogmann style ) another thing was that what i'm talking about was N82 was a new member of the Elite 5MP group i believe i didn't said next featurepacked phones as you want to imply by you sentences. and by the way you judge all S60 seems like you are blind of what kind of flaws those phone have.

^^ K850 is a nice handset, will be even better once bugs are fixed. but my attention is upon the next SE flasgships coming in, and of course the newly announced K660 mid range

remember this: the more things packed inside a phone - the same number of flaws possibly attacking the user somewhere - so imho people should not praise N82 that much, disappointment is possible in every product as always

@razec

OK i exaggerated a bit it's just in Hospital in a coma and may not recover enough ever and be left in a coma which is as good as dead.

Also they say imitation is the best form of flattery so thank you LOL, but as for this

"K850 is a nice handset, will be even better once bugs are fixed"

Sorry but shouldn't that read IF and WHEN SE fix the bugs as lets face it they may of improved the P1's camera but they still haven't fixed it and that's after how long now?. At the rate SE release new Firmware we are likely to see the next model from their rivals before that happens.

@RoKeC

You must of missed the fact that as well as being a smart phone it has demand paging that actually helps increase battery life. But of course if you have and use all the extra functionality it will use more power. But really who really needs 3 days battery life? and isn't near a power point to recharge for that long. I mean it's really difficult and time consuming to plug a phone in last thing at night before going to sleep such an effort and inconvenience.

Marc

Oh my god, Dogmann, you of all people making such a mistake. Where is your verb? I've noticed more and more people are switching "have" for "of".
What the F$%! is that?
Until now even when I disagreed with you, your prose had been a joy to read. Please don't drop your standards.
