UIQ COULD have been much better than s60, with the necessary commitment from its shareholders...it was the most elegant Symbian GUI

However, right now its over, sadly, in terms of new phones from SE.

However it still has lots of activity on its user community, and the AWESOME opera 9.5 just gave some more life. Some other devs too...gdesk keeps evolving, and even yesterday a kick ass messaging viewer was launched. So, i think iīll keep my p1 for a long time still.

Hmmmm....
Well, Opera Mobile 9.5 is not AWESOME yet IMO, I mean it has some lacks and problems.
As you say UIQ was the best UI... Anyway, my feel is that SE will not be SO comitted to Symbian anymore since they strongly connected with WM, and Symbian is basically Nokia's ownership....
I mean, SE will exit Symbian bandwagon and than come back?
Probably, but I'm not sure they'll be a leader in any way......
It's about a year to wait for that.
As for UIQ live today, honestly, apps like GDesk do not give any extra usability besides another - nice - UI layer. It's just eye-candy.
In fact we don't even have HSDPA and I'm afraid flash support will be limited till the end.
Sadly 208mHz processor is not a killer and UIQ3.0 is not that strong either(Symbian 9.1....)
I was hoping till the end but damn.... This is corporations!
I'm quite frustrated.... Probably WM as for me.
I'm curious what SE will do with that...

i think Opera its awesome compared with the competition...even now...it handles ajax based sites superbly, the scrolling is amazing, etc...and its only a beta

regarding gdesk...i think you are dead wrong...just use artseaīs diamond gdesk theme, and you will see...its far more than eye candy, its USEFULL

back to UIQ situation...

See my posts on MySymbian and Opera...
Well, if it's superior to competition, so the level of this development is generally.....low...
I'm a little bit disappointed. It took like 4 years for them to make an incomplete work... It MAY be amazing. Yet 8.65 works better IMO....Especially in mobile view.

Maybe on the first look it's fine. But I'm talking about reliability, and you can't tell me that the app which takes 30MB of RAM and is slow as hell with any txt input is better, it just lacks. If it will be polished, can be awesome.
But it's yet to be realised.

Y'know, the thought just occured to me, that as far as I can recall, there has never been a cyber-shot phone with a 2.6" screen. They've really got to do something to increase the standard size of screens now, have some that are WQVGA or something... Far be it for me to question how music phones can have larger screens than imaging phones...

sounds very good

Talking about the possibility of a new UIQ phone, how about a final decent firmware for the current UIQ3 devices? Something that would add a "find" function to contacts?
I really have a hard time believing that SE would come out with a new UIQ device when they can't even fix their current lineup.

So 2008 was pretty much a wipeout if you were expecting a new UIQ based phone that pushed the envelope on technology (and I don't mean the G700 and G900 phones).

It's such a shame to see fall so far like this

Well, I came very very close to getting a G900, but did not because it looks and feels extremely cheap IMO (high end SE, WTF?), but more than that because of all the software bugs you get on UIQ, the general lack of speed and usability. I'm sure the X1 will come with its share of bugs too, but the difference is that you always have xda developers who are keen to solve all the problems. its just a shame the X1 is so pricey. Abit of a smaller screen, a regular keypad, for me these things would be a good trade off for a good camera (well, better than the bog standard 3.2 MPx module, anyway) and an accelerometer. WM will always have its users and support. UIQ lacked so much...but S60 is undoubtedly way better, touch or not. The figures speak for themselves. But hopefully it will get an SE UI and SE flavour to it, then alot of people will be happy

@Tigershark42, you are describing the Touch Pro. It does have a few advantages over the X1.
I'm wondering if the X1 will have the same availability of different ROMs as the HTC or will it be stuck with a WM version while other WM devices keep getting upgrades... This should be a legitimate concern given SE's track record.

I have received a few hints from a trustworthy source, and this is my interpretation of them:

We can see from these code-names for 'clone' phones that there are similarities in their names:

Bella --> Becky = Z780i --> Z770i = Both start with the letter B.

Charlotte --> Carina = W710i --> Z710i = Both start with the letter C.

Lindsay --> Laura = S500i --> W580i = Both start with the letter L.

Carola --> Clara = W800i --> K750i = Both start with the letter C.

The hint given to me was:

ying --> yue --> yao

Now we know that Ying is the F305, right?
And we know that Yao is a Walkman phone based on the F305 right?
Well if my interpretation of these hints is correct, then Yue must be similar. I was also told that what we have been told of Yue's specs isn't quite true.

Another thing I was told was that Frances is very nice.
