Nokia is offering to replace 46 million batteries for its mobile phones after reports of overheating while charging.

The problems are confined to BL-5C batteries made by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006.

Massive!

Sony's recall of 8 million laptop batteries cost an estimated $430 million dollars for example, so it isn't small.

I wonder how many different phones are affected.

I don't think web browing is intensive.

Video streaming is intensive as you have sound, graphics and data streaming all activated so I wouldn't expect your battery to get hot just browsing the web, well not unless you have the radio going too.

@fatreg You know what I mean.

Isn't Matsushita the umbrella company of Panasonic etc?

Well they have a site where you can just enter your battery number and it will tell you if your affected or not.

Nokia are probably just covering their corporate backsides by making that announcement, i only ever heard rumours of one actually going into meltdown, i use cheap foreign copies off Ebay anyway, Nokia are always harping on about the dangers of such, perhaps they should have looked closer to home
