Hello,
I'm new here and I just bought myself a p990i. The phone is really unstable,
it freezes up and reboots randomly so I thought I would try and update the
firmware, but I'm not really sure how this is done. I haven't been able to find
any info or a tutorial anywhere. I got this updating program from SE's website
and it has these friggin gigantic buttons that cover half the screen. I followed
the instructions and it said to connect my USB cable, remove the battery, etc.
Then when the phone powered up the update screen just went back to the
starting page. Is that normal? There was no dialog saying the update completed
or anything. By the way, I have the flipflap thing removed so I can't press "C".
Someone told me to press the "@" button on the right side instead.
Here are my current firmware versions as
listed in the system information dialog:
Phone:
CXC 162037 R9G007
Bluetooth:
CXC162058 R5A01
Organizer:
CXC162036 R6D23
CDA:
CDA 162007/1 R6D23
If anyone can suggest something or maybe point me to a tutorial that
would be cool
Thanks,
Gabriel. |

R9G? I only recently updated my phone's firmware which is currently R9F - does that mean that there has been ANOTHER SE firmware update released? |

not much to bother about... it's the organizer version that's the "main version". The phone version may be different cause of country/provider specific features/functions. |

okie doke,
I managed to get the update app working (turned out I was running it on
vista and that was the problem). It told me I had the newest firmware, but
I went ahead and reinstalled it anyway. Nothing seems to have changed, I
still have the same problems. Also, I know the phone sometimes restarts
itself "to improve performance" but mine does it every 10-15 minutes or so,
and when it powers up it asks about the flight mode so if I have the phone
in my pocket and it suddenly decides it wants to reboot it wont power back
up again. Also, sometimes when people send me an sms it arrives several
hours later or calls can't go through either. I don't have this problem when
I put my SIM card in other phones so I know its not a problem with the
network :-/

I just found this :-/
It looks like the problems that are annoying me the most only
showed up in the R6 update. Is there a way to go back to R5?
One thing that is mega pissing me off is that the headphones
are so quite with this version that I can barely hear anything
with the volume all the way up :< |

Yes. Well, sort of! The process is explained and discussed in this thread here:

Ok I did some research and it seems the R5 firmware also has the quite audio
problem. Is there a way to get around this, maybe with a 3rd party app? I used
to use my old phone as an mp3 player but with this I can't really do that |

@GabrielG,
Maybe it's your hardware version, mine's (R7A) been working like a charm for me on R6D23 with none of the problems you mentioned (until it got soaked in pool water ). Would you mind sharing your hw version with us? You can find it on the P990 box itself. My full line is DPY 101 1472/145 R7A EN, it should start with DPY... for yours too. You should just know that your P990 behaviour is unacceptable and not what the general P990i users with the latest fw are experiencing. |

I second Mode's comment.
I too have none of those problems with my R6 firmware (though there are some problems), I'll check my hardware revision when I get home. |

Ok, Here is my hardware number:
DPY 101 1472/77 R8B
I wouldn't mind any of the problems from the firmware if not for the
quiet volume and the fact that sometimes my phone doesn't receive
SMS messages or calls. The Wiki site lists this as a common bug. Sometimes
people are trying to reach me and I only find out if I restart my phone for
some reason and then it suddenly receives the message/missed call |

Interesting, I'm beginning to see a connection. So far the R8 revisions seems to be having a bit of a hard time behaving normally, be it R8A or R8B. Anyone else can confirm this? |
