I don't imagine anything better connecting the work/media/entertainment needs. Now it is a bergain even without the low price. Yes it has some problems but has HUGE advantages.
Get it with the new FW.

1. get a generic world 1 p990i if you can. if you can't, you can always debrand it via kulankendi.

2. flash to latest firmware, then youre all set!

used to have problems with my p990i, but after the latest firmware, im 200% satisfied with it.

...if you're confused about "1", just read around. this forums is really helpful

Don't like branded phones so getting an unbranded one is a criteria for me =)

I bought a P990i a few days ago. (unbranded - 459€ - BT headset included).

After updating the firmware to the latest version and reading thru the forums to get to know the phone, I can say I am pretty happy with it.

You have to keep an eye on free memory (Swiss Manager Pro helps a lot) but it seems I made a good buy.

Looking forward to the new R6 firmware.

Everybody is talking about the R6 firmware...Does any1 have any idea what that firmware will hold and when it is to be expected. I ditched my first p990i after 2 weeks cause of horrible lock ups and stuff. But now that the new firmware is rather stable im kind of leaning towards the P990 again.
I got the magic stick!

good news is R6 will make it unnecessary to reboot phone in this situation

Then why the hell the M600i has no problem with that?! Same processor, same memory ( but has at least 25% free memory at start up), same OS...i am very dissapointed after spending a lot of money on it. I still mainly use my M600i.
AND Agile, Opera and Music player at the same time. Is it so much to ask?! Even the P 910i could do it without sweat!

because m600 does not have wifi, camera...even so, if you make a reclaim level 3 (swiss manager), and acess opera, agile and media player from the swiss manager favorites, you can run all three at same time.

If you use im+ even better, because it uses less RAM than agile

After the firmware update im very impressed. Not a single crash to date. Ill only moan about one thing.

Question though. How are you supposed to exit an application. By just usin the back arrow?

Im constantly finding myself having to end the applications through the tast manager. Is this the method I should be using?

The apps that came with the phone do not have an exit function, and they can only be terminated via the task manager.
When you hit the back button, these remain open.
Y
et you may wanna keep them open, cos it usually takes some time to open these again, and if u use that app (i.e. messaging) very often, it will really look like the phone is slow opening the app every time, instead of just switching to it..

I'm definitely happy with mine. My old p910i was falling apart and I managed to trade it in so it basically cost me USD320 to buy a brand new unbranded p990i just 6 months removed from its launch!

For the most part, I haven't experienced the difficulties that others have had.

Now, I've tried using the various iterations of the XDA and was a long-time PALM user. It's difficult to compare platforms but I think that, on balance, this phone is at least on par with a TREO given that what I need for my daily activities is not a miniature PC but more of a PDA/Phone (or Smartphone for those who want to split hairs).

I dont know about the P990, I kinda liked it with the keypad off, but then I faced the problem of not being able to use it with one hand (I hate how you cant use the QWERTY keypad for full navigation, its almost impossible to navigate around the fone without using touch screen, wen keypad is removed), so I ended up putting the horrid keypad back one, hate it, sp bulky and ugly, My P990 is lying in my drawer now, I only use my W810, waiting (more like hoping) for SE to come up with a FW version that allows you to navigate through the fone using just the QWERTY.
