i have the memory stick pro duo 512mb in my w810i, and I've noticed that, when i bought the phone, first time, then checked the memory status it does not have the exact 512mb but it is just around 438mb i think? why is this? | |

i havent ever seen memory card/usb key or even HDD with capacity gived on the label.
Ive got my 1GB stick for mine k750 and it wasnt 1024mb like it supose to be-it was 989MB. generaly SE phones formats their memory cards with FAT16 system (not with FAT32), and thats usualy wastes sometimes couple MB or some more.I wouldnt advice to use FAT32 file sys in memory card with phone...saving is slower (probably phon can manage only FAT16 "FAT" system)
I have another example: ive got 320GB external HDD for my laptop, but after ive tryed to format it with all available Format systems - the maximum amount could be used only on 302GB. I.E. with NTFS i had only 300GB...
the truth is somewhere otherside...
try to format your memory card in PC first and after in phone, could be phone cant recognise tottal amount of MBs in your card, but if it so, it will after PC will format it to phisicaly maximum amount of MBs
Peace man!

512mb memory sticks normally have 468mb available (perhaps you made a typo).
we have many threads discussing this issue, not just for the 512mb but for all sizes.
its also discussed in our Memory Stick FAQ
