i'm puzzled as why SE didn't include MegaBass for k800i in its Equalizer settings for all firmwares as older model non walkman K700i had it previously. My firmware is CXC1250215 HONG KONG R1ED001 and i don't have the Mega Bass option, when i use the update service it replies that i already have the latest firmware. When using try the phone in SE website for k800 the Mega Bass option is available and no mention about its availability in certain firmwares only.1 more puzzling think is on why SE did not include a photo light for Video recording at night is really dissapointing,i got laughed at by friends when they realised cybershot phone can't take video in dark.... |

MegaBass distorts most music anyway, so I wouldn't use it. The K800 does not have MegaBass, as it is not a Walkman phone. But no problem: you can use the manual Equalizer setting to achieve almost the same effect. While playing a song do this:
- Press "More" Menu
- Choose "Settings"
- There "Equalizer"
- Select Manual
- set the bars as follows:
1st bar to max
2nd to 70%
3rd to 40%
4th to 60%
5th to 90%
Have fun...
For the video: The K800 is a CyberShot phone, not a "Camcorder" product. |

There isn't no Megabass cause it's a Cyber-Shot phone so, I miss it too. And the thing about photo light with video.. I don't no why SE did not do that, the video quality is crap anyway so.

It's 16 bars for 100%, so that would be:
1st: 16
2nd: 11
3rd: 7
4th: 10
5th: 14
Of course you can increase or decrease each bar a bit, depending on personal taste. If you feel the sound is too clear then decrease bars 5 and/or 4. If there is too much bass decrease bars 1 and/or 2. Bar number 3 is responsible for voice and speech recognition.
Depending on your headset you may have to play around a bit, but I'm sure you will get enough bass. If you think it is too less, decrease bars 3,4,5 even further. You will loose some volume though. |

@peoples8:
uuh - what kind of headset are you using? This would blow my ears right into my brain... But it's all a matter of personal taste. And this for sure is enough bass, isn't it? |

I'm using HPM-70 stereo headset and this equalizer mode is just fine for me...
Original k800 headset is rubbish and I sold it the day after I bought k800!
I agree with you, although maybe just a little bit too much bass...

I'm using the HPM-70, too, sometimes a Sennheiser... So - are you missing MegaBass? |

Hi Thina2,
Welcome to Esato forums!
Here's my settings taken from a post I made in another thread.
*****************************************************
Also from the 'Music player' screen
press 'More'
choose 'Settings' (then press right on joystick)
select 'Equalizer'
(I've tested the presets but prefer Manual settings)
if you want to try 'Manual' (press the top right key just above 'C' key)
the goal here is to try and make the shape of a smile
the left side is the base frequencies through to treble on the right
It's surprising how many people just leave on normal settings not knowing what they are missing
PS: Stereo widening does not sound good on earphones!

I`m an ex w800/k750 user and I can say there is a huge difference between w800/k750 and k800-especially if you use hpm70-.I`m very disappointed about k800`s sound.I want a good mutimedia phone(music AND pictures).I know that k800 is not W but k750 is a K series and has much better sound than k800(also has megabass). Why Se didn`t upgraded just the camera and let intact that great sound fromk750???
I hope SE will come with solutions to increase k800`s output level.I made a test using k750,w800,w810 with same melody and same earpiece(hpm-70) and I must say that k800 is by far the worst(is very very slow)
I 100% agree with "k790/k800 sound quality SUCKS.Sennheiser cx 300 are much better than hpm-70. |

2nd: 1

4th: 10
5th: 16

@dcuk:
thanks for the picture - that should clarify things for those who do not know how to use an equalizer.
I have to agree that a Sennheiser headset sounds much better than the HBP70 - its also louder. Maybe the '70 just doesn't fit to the K800? With the K610 it's ok. |

I just got myself the bronze LE K800i and I must say that I am missing my W800i. The only reason I changed to K800i is because I wanted to have the camera and my music in one device. I got what I want, I guess but with big compromises.
I must be fair and say that the fone is in its overall performance is pretty good, but it is no walkman fone. You didn't know how much you miss it until it's gone. Here are my comparisons: -
1. Sound Quality - the W800i is of course superior but you can still get pretty decent sound with a good pair of earphones and fiddling with the equalizer manually. The songs on speaker is crap though - can't understand why they didn't improve this. I had a few miss calls because I can't hear the fone ringing even on highest volume.
2. Walkman interface - I do miss the screen display on the music info (song name, artist, album). I don't understand why the K800i couldn't have this interface as well.
3. Storage media - why did they change from MSPD to M2? Seriously? Now, after investing on the fone, I have to pay extra for the memory card as well. And how do I transfer 2GB of songs into 1GB which is the max space for an M2? Sony should rethink their position on this because now I have different medias for its different devices - its becoming a hassle.
4. Camera - of course K800i is far superior. I love the panoramic setting coz now I can take group pictures. There are a number of useful settings that will appease most generic users. I also like the blog upload feature. My complaints - no flash override, the image stabilizer setting is only available for Twillight Landscape and Landscape scenes - can't they just make it available to all scenes (if needed) and with BestPic(tm), you can't zoom wtf!!!? I don't know if its just me but I feel the macro close-up works better with W800i - can anyone verify this?
5. Video - both K800i and W800i is crappy. Don't bother.
6. K800i is a 3G fone - I like this as I can video call my hubby And of course, my service provider has streaming content and surfing the web is faster. Also I can download Opera Browser - so that's cool.
7. Looks - The bronze K800i is a looker, sleek and stylish - but it is very feminine. The W800i looked more clumsy and bulky but will appeal to most people especially the younger set (read: cool and unsophisticated).
8. Misc functions - I can't remember using this feature but now I realised that I do use it a lot - it is the torchlight feature on my W800i. They don't have it on my K800 and I'm wondering why? Is it because of the Xenon flash? The torchlight is so useful - to find your seat in the cinema, at a concert during a ballad, to find your keys in your bottomless bag, to check tickets/coupons at the club...*sigh*
My conclusion is - if you want an overall fone that can take pictures and listen to music on your 1/2 ride to work - then the K800i will please you. But if you are a hardcore music freak then, you should stick to the W series. |
