@adnhk1

just for the record, I have a Generic World phone and I have no bugs related to incorrect alarms and no problems with 3G or 2G signals, no problems with the Cam or call logs. I am not sure why some P990s are more reliable, perhaps SE have not released the latest FW for all regions yet

Hi Jah, for call logs issue, that is the problem which I am trying to find out over at my-symbian (guess you might already have read that some guys also faces the same issues over there too). If the bugs does not happened on all P990i, then what could be the cause of it? For e.g., I depended on the P990i's alarm every weekday morning to wake me up. But at times it spontaneously just rang out during weekends too, but this does not happen on all weekends, about 5 times out of my 2 mths usages, which is irritating enough imho. WEEKENDS The call logs is not registered for at least 50% of the time for most of my fellow P990i owners in my local SE Community too. We are all using the same Generic World 2 firmware, and yes, Organiser R3B01 is the latest firmware, and yes, I had performed master reset, re-upgrade the firmware and even perform reformat of internal memory but still the issues persists. Unless we could prove that all P990i released in Aug 2006 are faulty units, else these issues are bugs to all of us

Hi Indiandawg, nope, ours are local retail release and bought directly from local retail outlets with full local SE warranty. In our country, grey markets were during then selling the P990i at USD$1k plus, while local warrantied sets costs USD$800. So people with the right mind will not purchase from grey markets which is not only more expensive, but also NO warranty whatsoever from SE.

For me P990i fairly lived up to my expectation, especially with all the button arrangement and the function to go for short cut to most of the main functions/ programs of the phone.

For the graphics I still chose Windows Mobile.
For the audio quality (MP3 and phone audio) I chose P990i.
For Dimension wise P990i a bit to thick.
For the speed my P990i still slower than my SE M600i (hopefully because of the firmware).
For the photo & video quality, I chose P990i compare to most of the WinMobile pda's.
For the playback of the video, I put equal performance for P990i to WinMoblie pda's.
For the simple and easyness I chose P990i compare to WinMobile pda's.

Those are most of the points I feel using the P990i compare to other phone and pda that I already use.

My expectation is that SonyEricsson will focus and put effort to continually make the firmware more stable and faster.
Don't just upgrade the firmware untill certain period and then release the new model to make up the competition in smartphone industry.

satisfied and happy user to think this is my first p series.

took the risk and bought it the day it was officially released/launched, aug 26, 2006 here in the Philippines.

I have read a lot of horrible stories (prior to Philippine release) and still went on with my purchase.

its been almost 2 months now and i am still in love with my p990i. I got few kernel errors and crashes and these issues didnt bother me at all. A restart will do for me until a more 'stable' firmware is released by SE.

i would consider myself as medium to heavy user, sending sms/mms, voice and video calling, wifi, taking pictures, some word and spreadsheet. And my p990i never fails me.

I usually restart my phone every morning.

Master reset and flip off since day one.

Tried Swiss Manager Free Edition, uninstalled and never looked back.

I am on Generic World2;
Phone: CXC162037 R7A001
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R4F01
Organiser: CXC162036 R3B01
CDA: CDA162007/2 R3B01

Again, im a happy p990i user.

I remember my first day with my p990i:

Oops Jah, apologies, forgot to mention, I never use backup/restore for all my 4 generations of P series phones. Never trusted this feature for fear of it restoring some old sytem files and replaces the new ones. Hence for the past 4 years, all firmware upgrades for me means manual installation of all my applications, and manual restore of my contacts, calendar, jotter, etc.

edit: I am still hopeful that SE will eventually release a firmware that fixes these issues that some of us are facing currently. Else I really have to find a way to get my P990i replaced with a newer batch one to test it out, but that would be near impossible in my country

a question to all who felt that P990 had met their expectation:

Are you using any form of push mail, in particular Blackberry connect?

I know this is not the right forum, but just like adnhk1 i am experiancing the call log problem as well...latest firmware...if i remember correctly my p990 was the same batch as your Jah e.g. bought it at the same place....initlaly i thought the problem with the call log was that it did not add the number until the other person answered the phone, however this has been disproved since i have had 5-10mins conversations with people and still the number does not get added to the call log...

@ Gabster and adnhk1

I discovered with M600 that settings and other data are not deleted when you flash so I also do a Master Reset as well.

Coming from a feature phone (S700), I felt that it met my expectation if not exceeded it. I was even aware that the phone might be unstable out of the box but I was one of the lucky ones I guess and had minimal problems as the phone did almost everything it was supposed to do. The phone became stable with R6D23, a fw before the last one, But it still didn't do what was supposed to be it's biggest selling point-Multitask. That was why it got gunned down so badly as compared to P9xx and below. And to add insult to the injury, the RAM leaked like a shower in a hot summer's day, a lot and fast! I was happy with the phone because it gave me real and practical day to day solutions so didn't mind the delayed responsiveness. But after 2 years, it's starting to get to me, and X1 isn't giving me the Wow effect P990 gave me when it was announced. I have to disagree with hghautam when he said the specs were not up to scratch when it was actually quite advanced and the best specced phone at the time it was announced as opposed to X1 which is nothing to shout about at all. All in all, I think the project leader for 1st gen UIQ3 was a complete idiot for single handedly destroying SE's long standing good reputation with TS smartphones, simply by speccing in 64mb RAM which was obviously a big, big mistake that could've been avoided.

Well...I am on my second P990 now ... Had first one for two years, but decided to sell it after Jog Dial went berserk and the scratches became too visible. Was thinking about G900 for a while, but I am just sooo hoked on GDesk + SMP + qwerty + fairly big screen + Jog Dial, I could not make the change yet. Currently, I see no device that would completely be able to replace it, in spite of its shortcomings. ( P1's design didn't appeal to me...)

First year with it was hard though, I don't think it would have sticked with me if it was my main phone for calls - have a dumb phone for that. 128 MB of RAM to begin with, could have made it almost perfect
