I posted this orginally over at Howard Forums and haven't gotten much of a response. Wondering if there are any alternatives to yamigo for yahoo / wireless village connectivity as it seems yamigo has been abandoned by it's maintainers and is no longer functional. I use T-Mobile and have tried setting it up to use their servers (more info here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=5114156#post5114156 ) but can not get it to work with my w800i as I get an error saying 4-way login is not supported. Anything else out there? Any work arounds to get my phone to work w/ the T-Mo server? I'd love to get this working on my phone and stop using the sms based messenger without having to buy a third party java app.

Thanks in advance!

I find that Yamigo/Wireless Village is never working.

Your best option is to get one of the FREE 3'rd party apps for your phone, namely (from best to worst) Agile Messenger (symbian); IM+ (symbian); Mig33 (java); MXIT (java); X-Messenger (java).

Jimm is great too.
There's also mobispine and visual communicator. I haven't tried the latter two that much though...

There is an alternative to yamigo which uses the phones embedded client. If I find it I will post it.

I found this.

www.smartvas.com

Generically speaking, to configure the chat application to talk to our server, the server host field should be set to "www.smartvas.com".

Port number field(if available) should be set to 80.

Connection URL field should be set to "/oma/imps".

I haven't attempted to configure my handset yet as it seems to me there doesn't seem to be enough info.

@goldenface: Have you tried this service?
It says Smartone on the bottom of the pages so I got the impression that this is somehow conected to that operator. Are you on Smartone?

OK, I gave it a go and it was easy to register and set it up.
Unfortunately it only connects to MSN and not ICQ where I have most of my chat connections.

I could send some messages so I guess if you're inte MSN its a good alternative...

@floke.

Cool. Is there a delay in the messages like there is on Yamigo? I suppose there must be.

Can you please post your settings here for other people to refer to?

I will try and set mine up now.

Link to the forums.

Mine is set up.

It is much quicker than yamigo although it doesn't support yahoo IM, only msn.

  • Check your gprs account has been set up correctly

  • Check on www.smarvas.com to see if your phone is compatible, if it has the My Friends option then it is.

  • register with www.smartvas.com

  • log on with the password sent to your email address.

  • CHANGE your password to a new one

  • edit your smartvas profile to include your msn log in and password

  • enter the following settings in the My Friends option on your mobile

    Username - [your smartvas username]

    domain - [blank]

    password - [your smartvas password]

    server - http://www.smartvas.com/oma/imps

internet profile - your current profile eg [O2 wap GPRS].

The internet mode for this profile must also be set to WAP and not HTTP.

    Auto login - optional

    Allow connection - optional

  • Your mobile internet security setting might have to be set to NONE.

The server seems to refresh every 5 seconds or so, making it as instant as IM should be.

Once this has been set up. Logging out and logging in again should allow smartvas to retrieve your current msn contacts.

This will be a maximum of 30, so you may have to prune down your list to your most important or most popular.

Hope this helps
