Saudi Arabia has banned sale of mobile phones reports Times.co.uk. Saudi Arabian men has been reported to photograph women secretly. Saudi Arabia is probably not the only place in the world where men use the phone as a hidden camera, but it's probably the only country where the phones are forbidden.
Earlier this week a court in Washington ruled that voyeurism statute, as written, does not prohibit up-skirt photography in a public location.
Two men where charged because they took surreptitious photos and video of women and girls using tiny cameras. news.com

When I go on holidays in December to far East I will have a stop over at Saudi Arabia for a couple of hours. I will see what they do to me when I start playing with my MCA-20 Communicam.

Four Saudi ministries have appealed to King Fahd to reverse a ban on camera-equipped mobile phones in the kingdom, a local newspaper reported on Monday, according to Middle East Online.
"The ministries of interior, finance, trade and industry, and technology said such mobiles have become "a fait accompli like television and the internet," Al-Eqtissadiah said.
The ministries argued that most mobile phones would soon have installed cameras and that having to manufacture special phones for the Saudi market "would increase prices significantly," it added.
According to the daily, a recent survey showed a drop in mobile phone sales at distributors' outlets while trade prospered in individual shops that continued to sell camera-equipped phones illegally.
The ban has contributed to an increase in smuggling such phones from neighbouring countries, the paper said, quoting market sources.
Saudi Arabia's grand mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh has said that trading in such mobiles is un-Islamic because they "could be exploited to photograph and spread vice in the Saudi Muslim community.

Are there any Saudis in ESATO? I will really like to hear their take on this. It could even threaten their 'survival' here.

Saudi is one tough country mate ! My dad's is working there.
They're very strict. Strict security due to the fear of terrorist attacks. So it wouldnt surprise me if they confiscated camera phones from people during the period they reside there
Anyway, its not like there are places or babes worth taking a photo of anyway. Its more like a desert unlike UAE.

@coolapostle - Its not the picture taking that matters to them. Its the fact that with camera phones, you can take unwanted, embarassing pictures of people without their knowledge.
