Wrong Use of Bluetooth Now Criminalized in Kuwait |

The Kuwait Cabinet Sunday criminalised the wrong use of "Bluetooth" technology. This came following a recommendation by the National Assembly's Legal Affairs Committee to amend Law 9/2001 concerning the abuse of eavesdropping and telecommunication devices. This move came after a large number of people reported young men taking photos of women, without permission, with their cellular phones. The amendment proposes stiff penalties for taking photos using such equipment without the subject's knowledge and consent, and using these photos to damage their reputation. "The amendment is aimed at countering the misuse of this technology in an attempt to uphold the principles of freedom and respect for others' privacy, and to protect social values and ethics as enshrined in the Constitution," says the Cabinet.
The Cabinet passed the bill and referred it to HH the Amir. Earlier, Justice Minister Ahmad Baqer told Al-Rai Al-Aam daily those who misuse the "Bluetooth" technology will face tough penalties and may be imprisoned for two to five years depending upon the nature of the crime. The Justice Ministry has prepared a draft law to amend Law 9/2001, which is aimed at striking a balance between the use of high-tech telecommunication equipment and protecting people's privacy, he added. Meanwhile, "the Economic Committee of the Kuwait Cabinet has okayed a proposal on having Saturday as the weekly holiday instead of Thursday," reports Al-Anba quoting reliable sources. If the proposal is approved, the weekend holiday will be Friday and Saturday instead of Thursday and Friday.
Also a draft law on taxis submitted by the Finance Ministry in coordination with the Legislative and Legal Department has also been approved by the Economics Committee. "After considering the amendments suggested by the committee the draft law will be presented to the Supreme Planning Council for review and approval," sources said. "On getting the Planning Council's approval, the law will be presented to the Council of Ministers before submitting it to the National Assembly for final approval," the daily said.

Also According to Reiter's Camera Phone Report Saudi Arabia will confiscate camera phones at the airport.
Quote:
| In response to questions in Camera Phone Report about whether Saudi Arabia would confiscate camera phones, I called the Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. The Saudi government has banned camera phones in the country.
I spoke to someone in the Embassy's information office and she checked with another person to make sure.
I was told camera phones are confiscated from visitors flying into Saudi Arabia as part of the customs process. I was also told confiscated phones won't be returned when visitors leave the country. |

So, if you have a camera phone and you're going to Saudi Arabia, leave the phone at home or get a camera-less phone for the trip.

Maybe G.bush should invade saudia arabia and restore a bit of democracy and freedom there, instead of going after countries that don't play ball!

don't suggest it
you never know what he might do for oil domination
I don't know why there is such a panic over camera phones... was it the same when moving video was first introduced?

This problem was also debated when the first portable cameras appeared in 1888 (The Feature). |

@Masseur
Saudi is indeed a strange place. I worked there also as recently as a year ago for Aramco. However, there behavior is guided by customs and Arabic traditions rather than Islamic truths. I am currently living in Kuwait and I have not seen the article about BT use here in Kuwait. I will have to check that out.
As for spreading democracy, uuuh, have you looked Iraq lately? We can thank GWB for this for sure. Anyway, without getting political, invading Saudi or any other Arab country will not excuse the fact that the US is far in bed with the Saudi's that they have carte blanche to do what ever they want. |

You already really didn’t want to tempt fate and try and bring your cameraphone with you on your next visit to Saudi Arabia, but apparently since a government ban on selling and importing them hasn’t worked (they even sparked a brawl at a wedding there back in July), they’ve decided to turn to a higher power. The kingdom’s supreme religious leader, Sheik Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al al-Sheik, issued a religious edict condeming cellphones with built-in digital cameras, saying that they spread obscenity and that all citizens should renounce them immediately or risk punishment.

How long before DVD players and digi cams get banned for being evil and corrupting?

Did you know that you can spy on people with the new Aibo? It can take pictures at will and you can view them on the internet or you can connect to it with your cellphone and let it take pictures of your victims.
