Hello,

Still new to my SE K750i, and surfing the net for info I've stumbled over the Fastport.

I can understand that this is the new port used by SE in their phones, but that leaves me with:

- What was before? And how long did that last?
- If I buy Fastport-accessories now will they be obsolete in 1-2 years, so when I buy a new phone, I also have to buy new accessories?
- What's the advantages of the Fastport?
- Specs of the Fastport?
- On which phones are the Fastport currently used?
- Anything else of interest?

I just asked similar questions here:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=114473

1) What 'came before' was called the Slow Port Kidding. I don't know what it was called, but it had pins with varying spaces between them and it's on virtually all of their current non-newish and budget and mainstream phones. The new Fast Port looks very different 'cause it just has pins with no varying spaces between them and the pins aren't has high ('fat'). You just see a bunch of gold contacts evenly-spaced.

2) I doubt that Fast Port will be gone so soon. All the new phones, including the J220 budget phones and up are starting to support it.

3) Advantage? Apparently faster speed for larger files from cameras and music and so forth, but I would love to know what this speed is, or if it varies, as I stated in my thread. The connector itself is also a lot thinner than the old connector, potentially allowing smaller/slimmer phones to be made without the more bulky constraints of the old connector.

4) I would like some specs, too. I'd imagine the phones would now be the limiting factor for speed instead of the interface. At least I hope so.

5) Phones that the Fast Port is currently used? The DCU-60 is the new cable to connect to Fast Port phones. The old one was called the DCU-11. Anyway, if we look at the compatible phones for the DCU-60 on SonyEricsson's site, they are listed as being:

P990i
P990c
W810c
W810i
W900c
W900i
W600c
W600i
W550c
W550i
Z520a
Z520i
Z520c
W800i
K758c
W800c
K750c
K750i

Not included in that list is the upcoming budget phones like J220i and up that will use the new Fast Port.

All the new budget phones, J220i, J230i, etc. are moving to the new Fast Port connector (unless the SonyEricsson site is wrong about this, like it has been plenty of times when making phone comparisons on their site)

I doubt they will change the interface so fast yet again, but you never know I'd say it should stick around for a while and it's already used for many of their phones and growing.

Would be nice to get more info, tho!

btw, I forgot to answer you about the accessories. Yep, all-new accessories compatible with the Fast Port only.

If we look at their Acessories photo pages, and sort them by release date here, you can see some of them:

I suppose it had to happen eventually.
Last thing we want is slow transfers for big files. But the question is, how fast is it?

The serial emulation of a cable connection is slower even than a usb 1.1 card reader, so it doesn't matter squat if you connect the k750 to a usb 1.1 or 2.0 port.

The effective speed of the cable connection is 0.3 Mbps (around 30-40KB per sec), much slower than USB1.1 even (1.2Mbps). The reason the serial emultation is so slow is unclear. I am attempting to learn more about this issue, but don't hold out hope that speeds can be faster. Most reports I've seen claim speeds around .3Mbps on average (transfers start of faster then slow down to about this speed)

However the speed of a K700 for example (with the old port) is slower - about 8-10KB per sec. So I guess that's why they call it a "fastport".

Hi there,
I am very interested in talking with the fastport using AT-commands.
But not using USB. I want to use a serial communication with it.
It was possible when I used the older sony-ericsson like T630's slow-port.
but now, I just don't seem to find a way to talk serial to it.
I do know that if you shortcut pin 8 and 9 of the connector, you get into handsfree mode that apparently takes you out of the USB mode which is default. This is as far as I went.

Your forum is of great help to many.
I am sure my answer is in your hands. ^^
All the best D
