Why sewerage manhole are round and not square?

that's cos only if they're round would it be impossible for the cover to drop through the hole. it's simple physics really. as long as the diameter of the cover is more than that of the hole, no matter how you orientate the cover, it'll never be able to drop through the hole. hope that answers your question. =)

even triangles can fall through the hole when you orientate them in certain positions. =)

I think round one takes less area & has better orientation as compare to square & Triangle.

That would depend on what kind of a triangle it is... An equilateral one may not fall in....but others could

You would also have to rotate lid to fit it in hole, if it weren't round.
Now think how heavy that steel lid is...

a circle is also the shape that allows the lid to be manufactured from the smallest amount of material and still permit a person to fit through the hole.

That's what I was referring to. An Equi triangle.
distance between a tip to its opposite side and a tip to another tip are the farthest distances on the Equi tri. Both of them won't fit through the hole. |
