My wifes t610 has crashed big time and none of the buttons work when you turn it on.I know theres nothing wrong with the connection because if I charge the phone I can keep the display lit by pressing the keypad but nothing happens if I try to enter the PIN no. My question is - has anyone figured out a way to reset the phone without using the keypad?

I would imagine you need to flash the firmware. I'd take the phone to a service center.
