ok so I picked one up this morning. I wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for the fact that it was an almost free upgrade.
I have to say that the white on the phone is a pretty tacky white in my opinion and the metalic orange is not all that good.
Turning the phone on I get the options for "start phone" or "music only", thats fine, and you can choose in the settings whether to go through that menu or not.
Next, I go through the menu to enter date and time only to find the default orange theme does not allow the cursor to be seen so you only know where it is by changing a digit.
The walkman button in between the two top soft keys is ok but I am dissapointed to find that it doesn't have any of the facilities of the action button on the K750. I'd like to be able to switch between walkman mode and activity button mode.
That said, the walkman features do look pretty good.
My son already has his K750 so now I have today to decide if I will keep the W800 or the K750 as my daughter now wants one of them...
any other initial impressions from people who got theirs at midnight or this morning?

My first 5 minutes was pretty much the same.
I, on the other hand, find the white and orangeto be a cool colour combination. Not tacky at all.
Having used the K750 the menus are well know but there is a couple of things I need to get used to; Putting a call on hold and calling up a contact to transffer the call is a bit of a drag (need to look closer at that), and avoiding to press the music button on the side when digging the phone out of my pocket. I did that on the train yesterday and the volume was on full blast...
All in all I quite like this phone!
I preffer the W800 to the K750.

ok well the W800 went back to vodafone.
Dont think I'll bother getting another. If my daughter wants a K750 I'll get her one of those much cheaper and I have several 512mb memory cards not doing much so its much the same from what I saw.
Not fussed by the W800 (never really was) and less so with vodafone telling me it wasn't branded simply because you can use any MP3 as ringtone when in fact vodafone branded to me means ANYTHING changed from standard
thats probably the shortest I have ever had a phone!

Yep well i also work in a phone shop and most of us have the same opinion as yourselves, especially myself having a k750i. I do believe the activity short cut button the the k750i is must more useful compared to the walkman button, especially when there's a music button at the side of the phone. I also am not a huge fan of the strange white and orange copper colour but i could see how some may like it. All in all its just the k750i with flight mode and a bigger memory stick, nothing really new or worth shouting about. |
