Sony Ericsson's new Project Capuchin technology is a Java ME API that bridges the Java ME and Adobe Flash Lite programming environments. A new information document presenting an overview of Project Capuchin is now available for download.
Information document
The Sony Ericsson Project Capuchin bridging technology makes it possible to use Flash Lite tools for compelling user interface (UI) design while still having access to all phone services through Java ME.
The Project Capuchin information document presents an overview of this new technology, including a definition, a model of the architecture and a diagram of how the packager tool will behave.

Benefits of Project Capuchin
Project Capuchin allows developers to combine the richness of both Java ME and Flash Lite by encapsulating Flash Lite content in Java ME applications making content created by Adobe Flash technology appear as Java ME applications. Project Capuchin empowers these two distinct developer communities to leverage their respective expertise to quickly and securely create highly engaging mobile content.
Benefits for Java ME developers:
* New ways of building application UI using proven technology
* Clear separation of the presentation and service layer
* Efficient designer oriented tools allowing designers define the UI
Benefits for Flash Lite developers:
* Extend current limited set of APIs with the use of Java JSRs
* Secure Flash Lite applications through existing Java security mechanisms
* Distribute Flash Lite content using existing Java distribution infrastructure
* Deploy Flash in the same manner as Java ME games and applications

"SE is not keen about UIQ anymore... More Wm devices are coming, some UIQ models will be canceled. Pity XPeria will be mix of UIQ and WM
All WM models are equal to HTC - but HTC is working better, cheaper and will be on market earlier. Rafael is the copy of Xperia X1 - September on market, X1 will be postponed untill OCt, Nov (not sure now - sw not stable)
I didnt believe that next year will be good for SE. 8 mpx foto flagman is not so good More camera than phone... People dont like it. Nokia N85 will beat this product and Nokia N82 as well..."

Blah blah blah. Let's see at least one announcement.
Every company cancels many things 'cos they work on much more than they launch, it's obvious.
Nokia N82? A joke? |

You see...at the same time Eldar says:
1 - SE is not so keen of UIQ anymore (and will cancel some models - because they have/had alot in line to be launched). But hey, you could say this since they started developing any WM devices - they went from UIQ only to UIQ + WM
2 - Xperia line will have windows mobile AND UIQ devices - this sort of contradicts the first statement, because if they were not really keen of UIQ anymore, Xperia would be only WM
In the end, i also think UIQ future depends alot of how G700 and G900 will be accepted in the market...if they sell well, SE will be able to put more resources onto UIQ

Well Expansys are selling the G700 for £240!!! That's cheaper then the Samsng Soul by almost £100 and the LG Viewty by £30. So it's very well priced and I can see no reason why it won't be free on pretty much every contract, even pay as you go? As to how well they will sell who knows as this is a new market for UIQ. |

No, that´s G700...G900 was supposed to have a 350 euros launch price (not n expansys pre-order though)
So it seems prices will be lower than expected

Yep, what is interesting is a lot of people predicting the G700 and G900 being totally dirt cheap in a few months as the the prices come down. Still unknown territory though. But if they sell well then I can only see SE producing more cheap UIQ platforms. |

theos,
400-450 euros seems a lot more reasonable, if it's the old prototype. As I'm unaware of any changes since then, I can't say whether this will be it or not though.
