Here's more information and hands on experience about P5 from gliatiotis.

When phones reach my hands are at their final form in terms of hardware and only some s/w changes and minor changes in the materials occur before every one of them reaches production state .

In P200's case (or P5) software tweaks look possible since the phone responds faster even than G900/700 in some applications but it does tend to "lag" in others that should work normally .

After a few more days with the phone here are some remarks .

In every day use , the touch buttons on the upper side are next to useless since most of the task they perform can be easily performed in different ways , and the size along with the responsivenes of the keys makes them hard to use .
The GPS implementation is "strange" . You have to enable GPS from a menu taht pops up when you press the power button , a menu that can also enable/disable wifi and bluetooth along with off-line mode .
The applications that use the integrated GPS can't automatically enabled it in case you have dissabled GPS from the above mentioned menu . So you end up with an application that searches for satelites for ever , and in most cases you have to end the application from the task manager , enable GPS and then restart the application since just enabling with the application running will not cause it to recognize it .
As for the accuracy , is quite poor , way worst than the one of C702 and most Nokia phones . Then again , this can be improved up to one point with a s/w upgrade .
The phone's camera produces decent results in day light , quite better results than the one of G900 . In every other case , photographs come up with colour distortion and in some cases with some objects captured completely in a different colour . Although this can also be improved through a s/w upgrade to a point , the margin for improvement is not that big that someone can hope that it can reach the level of K800 in picture quality or even that of K850 .

That's all for now .

Sounds like a great piece of art...

GPS, Wifi, even VGA screens... These are all old news, things we've already seen in phones back in 2007. New revolutionary features never before seen in any mobile phone is what will blow our socks off, and do we not deserve to have them blown off? After all this wait?

P5 seems like a super P1 spec-wise so far, which is great for a lot of people, but I know many of us want more. Those of us who are still holding out are probably putting all our faith in Shiho, the next super cybershot. Rumors have been circulating about it being 7 or 8 megapixels, which one could say is a revolutionary new tech that has never before been demonstrated, okay... But it really isn't much of a new tech rather than an improvement over an existing one (camera)...

What is the wave of the future? The new super-technology for phones that will really put phones over the edge? PROJECTORS.

Several different companies are already making micro-projectors with the end goal of eventually applying the technology to cellphones. Some are said to be capable of displaying 40inch screens. Who needs 2.8" when you've got 40"? Better yet, Texas Instruments insists we'll see examples of their technology by the end of 2008...

As it so happens, Shiho is supposed to become available near the end of 2008... What do you guys think? Am I wasting my time dreaming about this, or will SE cozy up to projectors? Honestly I think they'll create a fast-port accessory before the integrate them into phones, but it's still an amazing concept

I hope that comment was a joke.

So we have now established that despite this phone neing hailed as the giant killer of 2008 there are still so many bad points.

1) has crap touch sensitive keys, whats the matter with you SE?
2) camera is way off and I reckon it will hit retail like this too. When is the last time SE put ANY camera phone out on the market in a decent state. Even the 902 is being outperformed by the 6220 classic.
3) GPS is crap

GPS, WiFi (b/g), and VGA Screen are old news for others but not for SE (don't talk about Japanese here).
So I guess SE think it's better late than never.

Innovation? No, thanks. Give it to some other vendors out there.

Gimmick? Yes, we have it a lot: Shake Control, SensMe, a bunch of color variants, lighting, etc.

Sigh....

Regarding the projectors, its true!
There is a rumour that Samsung will be the first to use these for cell phones, but they are not built in, they will be like an accessory.

http://www.3m.com/mpro/technology.html

..though take to the notes that SE have a new patent for micro projectors that will automatically adjust the colour settings depending on the background the image will be projected on.

Btw.
Shouldn't the rumoured P5 (Paris) follow the new numbering guidelines?
Then maybe it should be P203

This may not mean nothing in the end (who knows what SE decides), but Zed from CPS, the developers of Swiss Manager (SMP), the aplication used by glatosis to check the processor speed on Paris, admits the info can be incorrect, because the CPU value shown by SMP is fully dependent on a respective API call.

Since SMP on Paris is running on UIQ 3.3 instead of UIQ 3.0, we canīt be sure if the info is correct, right now.

I think you're right about the projectors. I've seen that written somewhere before, but I don't think it will have so many uses for the majority of users. I think this will be a smart phone feature only, as it could be handy for presentations.

Also, I highly doubt we will see it on Shiho or any phone from SE this year. Any new features on cell phones are seen in Japan first, then the rest of the world might see them 1 to 2 years later.
