@themarquee...For gods sake,lol.Pardon the pun.I know numerous people who use the mentioned term,but imo it's just general terminology.I couldn't imagine saying "for satans sake",as i'd just feel like a complete idiot.It's hardly a phrase from the norm.You believe what you choose to believe,i'll choose what i want to believe.Brainwashing people with religion is idious,and i can only blame parents for this utterly stupid practice.My children will be brought up to believe what they may...Anyone who DRUMS it in to their offpring have got SERIOUS problems.

i gave a rather simplified explanation of the big bang theory a few pages back, which, coupled with maddav's post, probably covers most of it fairly superficially.

The best comment made so far!.....More humans have died in the name of god than any natural or any other kind of disaster...indeed Religion is Evil. |

sorry i have to disagree. it is the most ignorant and prejudicial comment made so far.
religion, in and of itself, does not cause war, or hate, or suffering. it is the people behind religion which do that by subverting it to their own ends because they are either greedy, ambitious, misguided or mentally unhinged. there is not one major religion which genuinely promotes war or conquest, but there are many people who (deliberately or otherwise) misinterpret them for that purpose.
if you scratch the surface you will probably find most so-called "religious" wars were brought about by leaders with political motives, because they were savvy enough to manipulate religion into a tool of conquest. that is why most western civilations have a constitutional separation of powers between church and state. it ensures a very clear and defined sphere of influence. that isn't to say that the church cannot exert political pressure, or the politicians show moral leadership, but one cannot control the other.
i have said before (including in this thread) that i don't set a lot of stock in organised religion, because it can be subverted to a political purpose. this is particularly the case in less educated and more rigidly governed cultures, both throughout history and today. i prefer individual faith, but religion provides a forum for individuals to discuss the various concepts and meaning of that faith. war and suffering are brought about by the fallibility and ignorance of humanity, not the ideals of a specific religion.

i know this is going to offend some people but we should remember that humans are animals. more specifically "pack" animals, like rats and wolves. it's our nature to belong to our cultures whether it be political, religious, our social class, etc. just look at how faithful we are to our brands!! |

@peterkay
thanks, the truft is the only way u and me can get well 2gether. If only the leaders of today speaks the truft, hopefully the world will be a better place for all of us.
@gelfen
cant agree more from wat u said. from wat we've seen, war happens between 2countries of 2 different majority religion group. Such as the US(Christianity) and Iraq(Islam)... thus the word religion comes in mind... but wat happens if theres a war between the US and UK?? Both countries majority group falls under Christianity... Thus religion does Not come in mind.. but the war will fall under politics.. see the pattern.. If only war between 2countries with 2 different religion majority group had a war.. and they blame it on politics.. then the world wud be a better place, as no religion conflicts is effected.
@numnums
Yup tats agreedable, as we all falls under mammals, as humans. However u n me are different in religion, thus why we here posting peacefully? coz u and me know by doin so, we will learnt more from it then just walking away, futher more we share one common goal tat is SE, that is the majority brand in here. If only the world share one common goal eg. peace, surviving, human race, SE maybe?? hehe

I think of Iraq and Afghanistan. It seems clear to me that democracy is the root of all evil, all the wars and things that have happened, its all about democracy and freedom. |

i saw it last weekend too. thought it was very good (although a little revisionist).
"all have claim....and none have claim". if only more people took the view that every religion has merit.
