I just got my P800 updated to R2D at Fleet Communications in New Eltham, Kent. It was free. They did it while I waited. It took less than 40 minutes. They only started doing them yesterday 16 April and said they have done quite a few already.

Phone updated with no problem.
Took just over 1.5 hours. No charge.

It would not restore so I'm resyncing with Outlook and copying everthing back in now. |

markymark, where abouts are you in Amsterdam? I'm going to be over there in a week and it would be handy to pop into your store and get the upgrade to the latest version.

just got my phone back from se service centre in hayes, MOKO.
They had it for two days and couldn't get my phone to upgrade. It was their first p800.
They said they would send it off to SE but it would take 4 weeks so have got the phone back and will hang on to it until i find a place in west london that I can take it that can get it to work! |

But IF the phones were meant to be in english,..why the h... did they then introduce the software with languages ;-D
I prefer mine in my own language as well,..not "english layout", even though I speak english, and lived in english-speaking countries.
And when stuff/menues become "technical", I believe a lot would prefer their own language,...its always easier,..you dont have to "think" when reading your own language
I dont think SE would have done the last SW with the language-part, if it wasnt meant to be used. And also theres the Language-part in the PC-suite,..where the whole idea, I believe, is that we are supposed to be able to download language-files.
The software I tried to get on my P800, read Finish/danish/swedish/norwegian.
I'm going back to the SP next week to see if there should be any changes.

@Celios The name of our big boss is Rafalowicz, but that doesn't sound to good to be a name of a computer/telecom store. That's why it's called, RAF. The thing with the royal airforce is just a joke.
@Jan. Since the introduction of the p800 we have flashed about 75 p800's units I guess. The only units (about 5) we had problems with, were either original from Sweden or Finland. No clue why, but it could have something to do with the hardware version. |

On page screen with all applications click on 'View' on the menu bar.
On menu selection select 'System Information'.

I must admit that all this sounds a bit odd to me.
I'm seeing so many posts where different people are having difficulties with sync, failed restoring, videoplayer, camera and so on, after they upgraded.
To me it seems that this upgrade is basically "not playing along" with neither the phone, nor the PC-suite.
And I'm also reading that others havent been able to update at all, like me,..and some could solve it by updating the "old" way through cable RSC232 instead of USB and so on.
Some tried to update,..and then their eg bluetooth wont work, or phone chrashes.
To me it seems that SE havent really worked this one through,..theres no "red line" or whatever we call it,..its seems that people are encountering all sorts of different problems.
If it was just one problem/issue, it would be a lot easier to find the answer/fault,..but this just seems to be one big mess.
I couldnt possibly imagine that because the phone are from a specific country (e.g. Sweden), that this should cause problems.
It would be one of the bigger mistakes in SE's history, if this was true.
You cannot release a high-tech phone with all these possibilities, and expensive too, and then "some of them" doesnt work properly/cant get software...because of HW version !
I could accept it, if e.g. the phone was a year old/older version, but all P800's are very new (all are basically 2003 models),..so Hardware-version MUST NOT make a difference in this case.
I hope that I get my problems solved...and I hope its just a "simple mistake".

Ok this is going to be my first complaint about the P800. The fact that I have to take it to a SE store to get the software upgrade SUCKS! As I live overseas (on an Island) we don't have an authorised SE store here.....does this mean I have to fly back to NYC to get the upgrade??? Isn't this a perfect use for the internet??? There HAS to be another option! |

@Jan, I totally agree with you, buth the thing that only Finnish and Swedish phone gave errors during flashing (also with the PDA R1F and R1G flash) is a fact, not an opninion! At least, with our servicepoint.
But indeed, i have no info (yet) about the problems customers had with their p800 after the 2A upgrade during the eventual usage with backup, restore etc etc.
Good luck with the upgrade. Try to master reset before you upgrade and try another battery! That helped us once when we had a brand new fully charged T68i which kept producing errors during the flash. After we flashed it with another battery it went fine. And the phone worked normally with the "faulty" battery. |

I did notice that sync'ing with Outlook 2000 doesn't recursively go into folders. My contacts folder in Outlook has subfolders, and I thought the sync would recreate the same folder structure on the P800.
Nope, have to put all in root of contacts and afterwards one by one recategorize on the phone, rather annoying! Is this normal or am I forgetting something???
Using latest desktop sync version and the new R2.
ps: the new R2 is much better for categorizing, but it has some weird behaviour if you sync a contact which has a company name but no job title and the file as field is different as the full name field. It will show as name in the phonebook the company name and the actual first & last namefields are empty. A BUG! |
