I was looking for a nice font that included Japanese characters. Although both worked just fine, I wasn't entirely satisfied with the look of MS Gothic and Sazanami Gothic. Finally, I found the free aqua font.
It's basically a handwriting style font, so it may not be as readable as some others, but I think it looks great on my P1i.

You can get the aqua font from the website I linked to in my original post. In case you have trouble, the download page is here.
I used the TrueType aqua2_8.zip version. Just make 4 copies and rename as instructed earlier in this thread.

Same as with the icons. Basically, you mirror the files on the rom- drive (z:) over on the mem- stick. And then replace the files on the mem- stick with something else. The phone then reads those files with the identical names on startup, instead of the ones on the rom- drive.
Ok, maybe a stupid question, but I'm wondering about one thing;
how du you "mirror the files on the rom- drive (z:) over on the mem- stick"?
It's apparently not enough to copy the new font files over to the phones mem- stick (d:) in a folder (path) d:\\resource\\fonts\\...
Any hints and/or tips?!
For example, the fonts need to be in d:\\resource\\fonts\\
And there should be four files in the directory:
Sans-Serif_Latin-Regular.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-Bold.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-BoldItalic.ttf
Sans-Serif_Latin-Italic.ttf
So you'll have to rename your fonts to match those, and then put those in the directory on the mem- stick.
(I'm sure there's some real potential for doing harm here, but not as long as the replaced files are ttf- files, or mbm- files. If things don't work out, just delete the files with x-plore or the cable, and reboot the phone. Worst case, reboot the phone without the mem- card. So.. it's a reversible and safe hack that doesn't actually overwrite anything.)

Above is the Z8 font for anyone that needs it, i got it on my p1i and it looks superb. To mirror a font is basically to make your p1i use the font you selct by naming it exactly the same as the font that the p1i uses so that when you RESTART your p1i and have your fonts placed in the right file Z/resource/fonts, it should use the font you selected instead of the default one |

My phone (960i) wont let me create the "resource" folder in the media memory, I get a warning sign and the option to save again using a different file name, as if it already exists. Can see it through the filemanager app though?
Does the "fonty.zip" have the missing characters corrected ? |

Try connecting the phone to the computer using file transfer mode and then creating the directory and copying the files. It should work. |

Thanks for the new files.
One more question, though; I don't have access to edit/replace the contents of my ROM-drive (Z:\), so I'm not able to mirror the new font files...
Any tips/hints on how-to manage this? (I've tried both the "Swiss manager" app as well as "X-plore" app to do this...) |
