To everyone who has got WiFi working successfully, what range do you get with a reasonable connection speed? Does it work everywhere a laptop works?

Definitely not! I've done several scan tests at various locations and the P990 can't detect most of the networks my notebook sees. The signal level needs to be close to 100% for the P990 to detect the Wi-Fi network and this is with a full battery

I live in 8 floors building on the last floor. In my appartment (80 m2, 3 rooms, balcony, etc.) I can access and use wlan wherever I am. When I come out of the building and enter into my car right in front I can also connect to my home wlan.

It is dlink DI-524 AirPlus G 802.11g/2.4GHz. This router got so many negative comments on the web but it was cheap so I chose it. So far it works without any problems. Regarding P990 connection out of building it is low signal with droping connection so not quite functional. And also my car is right in front and my router stright above on the 8 floor in my sleaping room (where PC is).

I needed the browser code for the W810 so I can do some website testing in Firefox Beta 2.

you know the code that similar too
NokiaE50-1/3.0 (06.27.1.0) SymbianOS/9.1 Series60/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1

Sorry everyone to hijack. If anyone knows what the W810i's browser code it would be helpful.

BACK on track though .... can the P990i be told what the WLAN network's SSID is if its hidden, and can it connect to it?!

I'm sorry for doubting you on this, as I dont own a P990i. However, there are MANY MANY other things that come to affect wireless signals for WiFi. Structure of the building ... does your building have high steel guirders for a structure? How about density of the concrete? Are there many access points that you can pick up on your floor? If so I'm sure the have a higher gain (-5ohm's) antenna hooked up to their linksys box. I used to use a WiFi 802.11b/g DLink PCI card in my desktop PC. This card had a dinky little antenna. I lived right at the corner of my street and the WiFi signal I'd syphon off my neighber was litera no more than 45 feet (if I crossed within the lines of the street right one way then left the other to the diagonal corner) to 30feet away. His house was made with a wood structure and very thin density of concrete building blocks. Id get full signal ... great quality and more than 5Mb/sec usuable/actual bandwidth. HOWEVER when a gas truck or an 18 wheeler passed by ... signal would be dropped ... dead... nadda!

SO dont just blame your P990i outright. you didnt even mention the floor you're getting your AP from ... did you?

- Finally, I've found my own solution!

- You can try it by go to the Command Prompt in your computer

- type "ipconfig -all" then press enter

- in your p990i, go to setting your wifi account -> WLAN setup ,set TCP/IP -> IP config as IPv4 then enter what you've seen in Command Prompt plus 1 at the last digit for IP address
(*Example* if your IP address that you've seen is 192.168.254.102 you must set in your p990i as 192.168.254.103)

- Set IP DNS address as you've seen in Command Prompt (don't forget to choose IPv4 first)(DNS can be seen in "DNS Server") Primary and secondary canbe the sme

- save your progress

- Enjoy the internet!

Hi all.

I managed to sort the wireless Home stuff ok so can web surf on P990 via my Home Wireless router.

My problem is I still can't get my P990 to use Hotspots to be able to use Web and collect emails. Still says "Remote Server" errors.

If I do a Scan, find a hotspot, Click connect, states connected - then fire up Web, states cannot find remote server. Even shows "DefaultWifi" in my connections manager while it's trying so I know it's using the correct connection.

Please help me out - I'm losing the will to live.

So near - just can't get it to work.

What's the missing link?

PS - Power Save is Off as well.
P990i - Great phone - Wish I knew how to use it!
