relax i did say that it is stylish but its just that shutter it never looks good on any phone in my opinion even if the cybershot logo should justify it i did say that the front side is cool and very good looking
@driftmania
z710 is one of S.E's best clamshells in my opinion it looks good feels good in the hand and its not crap. my friend has it for two years now and it still looks good with minor fall crashes nothing more and he is extremely fund of it (and he had dropped it a few times)
the only thing that bothered me with z710 was the outer display - color would have been a lot better than monochromic blue and the inner display would have been better with 2" 240x320 (thats why i got w850i instead )
that would have made it sell like cookies as it was relatively cheap in price tag
I don't know, when it's closed, it kind of reminds me of a walkie-talkie kind of shape. |

P5 is very unlikely to be announced in jan because of the rumored updates.
I want to see a high-end clamshell, a cybershot slider/clamshell and some nice music device.

seems that the black z660 spypic is posted by SE itself.
Do you mean you think its an official SE picture?
I think this Z660 "spy pic" doesn't look at all like a spy pic. Firstly, if it were a spy pic, it wouldn't be sitting there on display and obviously set up in a nice environment (fancy glasses and background). PeterKay alone has made us realise that SE are strict on those in possession of a prototype or any phone before it is released, so why would they let the Z660 be set up for such a photograph?
Secondly, theres the quality of the picture. It appears as though it is a shocking photograph of a photograph or a bad photocopy. Perhaps this is an attempt to hide the fact it is a fake (because most people can tell a fake if the image is sharp and not blurry).
It all just seems a bit odd to me. It says "SE123" on it by the looks of it, meaning its not an SE advertising image, because if it was, it'd say the real model name. So that is ruled out.
I am beginning to believe this "Z660" design isn't real. Another thing is that unusually large microphone.
Doesn't seem right....

There is no reason to doubt this is real AFAIC. Who would really go out of their way to create such a elaborate spypic for a relatively low end phone?
It looks to me like a crop of a image used in an advertising exercise for the phone, plus rumours and Photoshops appeared for this device before this picture appeared.
To me it looks real.

i think that what Muhummad-Oli is saying is worth noticing
unless someone els proves otherwise this phone might as well be fake (parts of it photoshoped)

And then again, it might be for real.
PS. That might not be the microphone. |

to me... it's real.
1-because spy pics are not always taken within 50cm
this image seems to be a zoomed one from more than 3-4 meters.
2-no one will try to photoshop a mid-end device like that (if that image is photoshoped then it's maker is a super photoshoper!)
3-surroundings around the phone does not suggest a photoshoped concept
besides.... i don't think that the thing below the keypad is any kind of microphone!!! |

Im sure SE will surely be back into the game next year. since the news spreading about the failure of the company to penetrate the low-end market by concentrating on making budget phones is something that could herald a perception that SE will now focus more on high-end and mid ranges. and with the new president of SE which was a japanese - why is that so? because Japanese people loves technology and SE Japan proves that so i'm pretty sure that with the persisting public demand on highend phones like what virtually happened with the N95's hit. SE would now compete with the high-end like what they're used to
UIQ will surely gloom at 2008, since it is not SE and UIQ who designs and works for the entire UIQ platform but there was already a giant motorola developer's group that will help to develop UIQ to reach it's full potential. with this these companies will surely venture some powerful multimedia and enterprise smartphones based on the said platform.
regarding the P5 name- are those people really sure it's indexed as P5? since there are still unused indexes i.e. P2,P3 and more unlikely P4. P5 seems too far from the index's progress if that's the case which unlikely indicates that P5 will be a very advanced smartphone like what P800 did at its time.

why is it hard to take some of the japan based services away from the phone and release it world wide im pretty sure people outside of japan looooooove hi-tech phones like these !!!
DUDE NICE FIND on that!
Is the 904i on NTT a Symbian based device? If so then I'm afraid we'll see the Jig Browser on S60 sooner before SE phones, if ever.
That said .....
WHERE THE FUNK! is my K850i with UIQ3.1/2 Smartphone edition!? Common SE work the sweat off of Motorola and bring it to me PLEASE NOW! STILL include the Triband 3.5G, 5MP camera (heck even 3.2MP+AF would suffice), introduce WiFi in it and allow for qvga recording @ 30fps or even VGA recording and I'll pay $700CAN (at current $0.98US equivalency) for it! I have a BIG cheque coming right after Boxing day and 1st wk of January. I'm considering 3 phones 3 different platforms so its do or die ... after that I'm saving my next 8 cheques for a car.

Good point As a photoshopper myself, I can say I would not go to such effort to create a mid or low end concept. I still find there are a few things that bother me about the image, but I guess we will see who is right in a month or two!

I hope CES doesn't just see SE displaying its latest three handsets like it has done in the past, it would great if it started 2008 with something nice.

I'd like to think I have a fairly good eye for these things and this looks pretty real to me. I can see Muhummad-Oli's point about SE123 and not wanting to use it in the ad shots, but if they hadn't decided on the index at the time they were putting together potential live pics then I'd expect that's what they'd use. I wouldn't expect to see SE123 in the final live pics, however. Maybe SE will photoshop in 'Z660i' and show you all how to really photoshop something.
I am really quite hoping that this is the Z660i because I've been looking for something sleek and stylish as my second phone to contrast with my primary phone, a K850, which is a little bulky. I've also been waiting for a decent clamshell/slider/swivel option from SE (camera won't be an issue as I have my K850) so this will fit the bill perfectly.
Any ideas/rumours on the release date? I'm up for an upgrade come mid-Feb.
...and where did all the high-res pics of phones go on the SE website?? They've changed it all round and I can't them.
edit:
....found them
