O2 uk branded phones now are updating to R1CA037

this has been done by myself and friend this morning.

037 has been on O2 phones for a while. I've had my phone for 2 weeks now and it had 037 when I got it so that one isn't the new firmware that should have come out on 10th Dec. Will be glad when they do finally release it though as I want to be able to use my camera! Its useless if the flash doesn't work properly!

As my friend @Krubach said before, i bought the MBS-100 for my K850 but isn't compatible at the moment for the "new" phones

So inside of the MBS-100 box i found a paper that explain for the "new" phones as the K850 "phones purchased before February 1st 2008 should update their firmware for optimal performance"

It's the proof that the new firmware Update for the K850 will be available in January as SE has on their website

i have just gotten my k850i a few days ago.. but it feel lagging and there are lots of bug even after i updated the phone software version to R1CA037 (latest)..

i heard rumor saying that a new firmware will be out on 10th Dec, is this true? is the new firmware going to solve the problems i have on my k850i.. lag, black pictures taken from the camera, media player equalizer bug.

thank for reading, hope u will answer 2 those question i asked.. and i hope the rumor of the new firmware to be out on the 10th to be true.

reply from sony ericsson:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.
With regards to your inquiry,
I am afraid the rumours are not true, there will be new softwares, but they are due only in end of january/start of feb.

The newer firmware are meant to address the concerns raise by customers, and definitely, it will enhance the phone's performance.

Thank you and have a nice day.
Best regards,
Wei Liang Lim

Don't like this trend of products being released on the market with so many bugs/issues... XP, XBox360, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, iPod Classic etc. anyway...

I've had my K850i for just over a week now (Branded - Optus). Been following this thread since... After reading up on all the bugs n stuff reported, i decided to do a Master Reset as soon as I got it. Lost the demo video, some themes and sounds, but nothing i cant get back.. On the 2nd day, it restarted once on its own while browsing through Media Player (which was quite slow then..). Also had the problem of not being able to add birthdays to the calender from contacts, even if i deleted and added the date again...

Issues being faced:
- Charging battery-left hanging to 99% (USB charging excepted)
- Speed of searching through contact list
- A/V sync of MP4 video files

However, seriously dunno wth happened during the past few days, but now birthdays can be added to calender, media player runs way faster.. Contact list is still quite slow to search (its like running XP on a 386 ) but everything else runs fine, actually BETTER than since the first few days of using it. Above issues still there...

My software version:
1200-4404
R1CA029
070922

Tried updating via FOTA but apparently it is "up to date" Just gonna wait 'till that major update in Jan/Feb.. I can live with a slow contact list (for now.. ) Even with its kinks, this is one heck of a phone. The camera is AMAZING. Phone call clarity and quality is one of the best I've heard.

Good luck to all those dealing with the "bugs"

Minor updates to the first post, adding benchmark numbers for 37 (thanks Krubach) and noting the availability of 37 on O2 phones. Sorry if I appear not to be keeping too up to date with this thread - I only had the phone for a week when it first came out before sending it back to O2 due to the bugs / inferior functionaility compared to the K800 I was experiencing.

Hi all

Is it just me that finds it amazeing that even though SE knows there are bugs and some serious issues faced by K850 users they will still take three and half to Four months to release the first firmware to fix them.

I really don't see how that can be right for it to take so long especially as they obviously knew of problems before release and this means your flagship Camera phone will miss Christmas and New Year Photo opportunities the time when most people will take more pictures than any other time of Year.

That is really appalling customer support and no way to treat users who have bought an expensive Flagship product and have paid and expect it to work as advertised.

Marc

One minor bug:
Set a theme with TitleSmall image. The TitleSmall image will accidentally appear on Desktop. Please, refer to Theme Creator to get more ideas of these.

Here are my findings so far with K850i R1CA037 APAC-ANZ updated via SEUS, not FOTA.

- FIXED : Shuffle functionality in the Media Player repeats the same track until you manually skip to the next.

- FIXED : The flash doesn't always sync with the image capture, leaving dark or black photos in night conditions.

- FIXED : Manual equaliser settings are not remembered when exiting and then returning to the media player.

- FIXED : Phone can crash whilst in standby mode, requiring a hard reboot (taking the battery out)

- FIXED : Corruption of the file system can occur affecting photos, applications etc

- FIXED : Alarms only produce three beeps on some phones rather than play the selected ringtone.

- FIXED : Some Video playback is out of sync with the sound

- FIXED : USB photo transfer can lead to duplicated pictures / removal of other pictures present on the phone

- FIXED : When you connect the phone via the usb cable, You cant see the ringtone folder

- FIXED : Phone doesnt support some Mp4 files and doesnt support some jpeg photos.

- FIXED : On some phones the shutter ocasionally fails to open when taking a photo

- FIXED : Not all symbols are possible to enter in the email client settings, e.g. not allowing you from adding a : for gmail addresses.

- FIXED : On some phones, the volume keys do not respond, requiring a reboot to restore functionaility.

- PROBLEM : PhotoMate always shuts down by itself and pops up a message of 'application uses too much memory' or something. Other applications like Opera Mini, Gmail and Y! Go work normal.

- PROBLEM : Once you move your Demo Tour to memory card, it won't be recognised anymore by the phone (although you return it back to its original place intact).
EDIT : Just my phone perhaps? Or I have done it incorrectly?

- PROBLEM : Title Small image accidentally and partially appear wrongly on Desktop. It applies only on themes with Title Small image element embedded. Refer to Theme Creator to understand this phenomenon.

- PROBLEM or NORMAL ? Backlight on screen and keypad always changes in terms of level by itself inconsistently. It may be due to the Light Sensor working on the surroundings?

- PROBLEM : Certain MicroSD brands are reported to ask for reformatting again and again when being used on the phone. (as reported by one member here, Rifqi_Aziz)

- INFO : Inputting text on Opera Mini can reach more than 6000 characters limit instead of 5524, e.g. when editing a more-than-5524-characters-long post at Esato.

NOTE : As usual, correct me if I am wrong.

this is unseen bug/mistake in k850i....when ur typing a plain text mgs, there were no character counter. so i cant figure it out haw many characters iv typed.

standby clock is still in dark..!!.

and thses are some weak points k850i

i cant check call duration in a call before last call...(my old moto e398 offers 10 call with call time, both received n dialed )
