@da wanqsta: I don't mind at all mate.
Initially MTN announced that they were only offering two channels- Fashion+CNN- now they're apparently offering 11 channels.
When da monkeyman emailed me some months back during the initial DVB-H trial, he said that the subscription to the service was linked to your DStv account, meaning that you had to be a subscriber to the satellite service to use the trial.
Will trawl the net for some clarity.

I'm going to follow this one with vested interest
My father worked for Naspers for most of his adult life, and now that he's retired he still does consultancy work for them. He bought up as much stock as he could with their initial flotation, so he'll be meeting this news with great anticipation.
Nice Nokia there, Wanqa, both of em

OK, trawled the net but could only find this site, there's no word on how people would pay should the service become commercial next year(should they be granted a license).
Samsung P910 is available as an MTN exclusive and they've promoted it heavily as a phone with tv functionality...if I had a spare R4000 lying around I'd also pick it up.

@ wanqa, not sure if jim will go. We chatted a little while this evening, but had more pressing matters to discuss, so never got onto the topic.
Cool, 11channels...but bandwidth is still a concern. Considering 1 43 minute episode of battlestar galactica is about 140mb, watching mobile tv is far from worth it. So you dont pay for the data, a buck a minute is still lots. Once that concern can be addressed, maybe it will work.
@ wanqa again, enjoy the show! Looking forward to the pictures and info:)

@francoislr: DVB-H is NOT streamed to your phone...it's broadcast. That means you get a special transmitter for DVB-H programming and service is not dependent on 3G.
@dr_thug: The Black Caps won a low-scoring game.

Oh, cool! Now just wait, sure they will find a way or reason for people to pay through their noses anyway:)

Hopefully DStv don't get a monopoly on DVB-H and ICASA licences some few other players who could provide a service.

Thanks Guys.
Unfortunately the voda software is very buggy. Doesn't retain settings etc. The Icons aren't half as bad as they are on the k750, the look very similar to the SE ones. But still.
Who needs 2 vodata menus? Really! Other than that and the 5!!! game DEMOS! I'm really happy. It's gorgeous and works like a demon.
If I get the opportunity i'll debrand it. but for now, I have no real complaints. |

Has anyone seen these phones? It is some SmartPhone someone at work brought my attention to. It is very similar to Imates, probably the people who made the imates. So, wanqa, see if you can find out anything...The brand is called HTC. Here is a link to a phone the guy at my work wants to buy...

@francois: It's the HTC TyTN (pronounced Titan)...AFAIK it's not available through the networks but as an import at around the same price you would pay for a P990. The TyTn comes with everything you could wish for...HSDPA, Windows Mobile 5.0, 3G/EDGE and a host of features that makes the P990 look out-dated.

I may have mentioned this before, but HTC is owned by none other than Microsoft.
That also explains their Windows 5.0 operating system preference as well.
A lot has been said about the TyTn's impressive features and being readily compared to the P990i on esato:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=127261
It is carried by some networks here, eg. Orange:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop[....]e_spv_m3100/detail/pay_monthly
and T-Mobile:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dis[....]view&menuid=ctl_phones_details
..and bundled as the HTC TyTn with O2:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/o2/11200.htm
...or sim-free from them or expansys, etc.
There are some sold on esato's market forums in these guises(and on ebay); they are relatively easy to debrand and unlock too...and are also roughly £100 cheaper to buy than your average P990i.
I have considered a TyTn, but never warmed to Windows 5.0 when I had the SPV C550. To be fair though, I haven't tried out a TyTn yet, so maybe this afternoon will provide a few opportunities.
EDIT: If bought sim-free and not as one of these branded/ network guises, then brix is right on the money (excuse the pun); they are nearly the same price as a P990i then.
