Hello,

I know I will be getting a lot of pain for raising this question but I need an answer and hence here it comes

Which would be better phone to buy? I have no idea of the actual release date from both the products but am confused in terms of usage and all that.

I had a M600 as soon as it was launched but it had far too many issues and I have now gone back to my old trustworthy Palm Treo 650.

I need a good phone and with that some good PDA features like PIM, Keyboard entry, mails etc.

I know esato forum is highly skewed towards P990 but want to know if TyTn is something that can also be looked at.

Cheers,
Deepak

Depends on what you want really, do you want a phone-pda device or a pda-phone device. If its the first you want then the P990i will be the best one for you, otherwise if you want the pda-phone device then it will be Tyn Tyn for you.

TyTN (as in Titan yer)

Thats the one ive decided to go for, I was interested in the P990i for its 3G capabilities aswell as touch screen and the etc....

The only other one i saw was the JASJAR which i thought was just awful to look at.

Now ive seen the TyTN and mobilefun.co.uk says it should be in stock on monday....my minds made up!

The p990 should be available in under 3 weeks now. I do like the windows 5 machines though.

The big advantages of Tytn comparing to P990 is that:
-is already available
-is far more quicker in every job and stable( yes i have played with both of them, i am not lying)
-has a huge list of software ready to be loaded
The advantage of P990 is
-radio
-better camera
-The form factor is more practical for someone who wants to make many phone calls and the sound when speaking to someone is far better to P990(than any windows mobile device).
So, choose what best fits you!

Deepak,

Great post. I am in a similar dilema but according to O2 they are not releasing the XDA Trion (HTC TyTn) in the UK. It's out in Germany but no plans for the UK. Strange to say the least.

Back to the topic, I like the look of both phones and the extensive amount of options they offer but I have an XDA Mini S (K-JAM) which is very slow and cumbersome. I hope someone can confirm that both the TyTn and P990i are faster than the K-Jam and to the extent that I will not regret tying myself in for another 12 months with a crap handset. To say the least I am very divided over the 2 phones as they seem perfect on the face of things!!!

I look forward to more interesting advice.

You also forgot to add that P990 also has 262k screen unlike the tytn which is only 65k and playing mp3 on the P990 will be much better compare to the tytn.

Another point to make perhaps. One of the software available for WM5 / TyTn is Skype/VoiP support. I've got another few weeks before I have to make up my mind. I'll probably wait until both are out and will check look and feel prior to purchasing either of those.

I have had the XDA Mini for 18months now and have to say that I am at the end of my tether with it. The OS (PPC2003) is simply not stable, and from what I have seen the new Windows 5 OS is little different.

I am certainly hoping that UIQ3 and Symbian 9 is alot more stable.

Windows CE 5 was slagged off in some French reviews because it was 'quite' unstable and drained the battery a lot, and their advice was to wait until so service pack came out before buying a device powered with it.

I think I'll go for the P990, but only if it works with my BMW M5 bluetooth!

P990 here in Luxembourg announced for 649 euro, which is pretty good as a price. (but since I can buy it without VAT, it is only 565 euro, which is a steal for what you get!)

There has already been a number of service pack releases of WM5. I think they are already up to AKU3.
From what I have seen of recent WM5 devices they are very stable, and certainly more than a match for the M600i in it's current state or from what I have been hearing about the P990i so far. Even up to the end of my P910i ownership I would never have really classed that as 100% stable!
There really is an awful lot of FUD spread about WM based devices mainly by people who have never used them for any length of time.
Of course WM has its bad points, but so does Symbian too. Each has their own merits.

Correct.....Ive seen a few WM5 handsets in action and the people who i know that have one speak VERY highly of them (one of which has had a P900 and a P910i). Most say to go for TyTN over P990i but mostly because the type of device im after is more suited to PPC over smartphone.

My experience of the P900 has been VERY good so far as to say have only had to replace the flip once. Though software-wise it has crashed countless times LOL. Had mine since March 2004 so its had a good ol running

i go for the p990i because it has a stereo bluetooth support that htc tytn does'nt. and they said that the camera of the tytn sucks and has a trouble communicating with the person using it.

I've got the Orange version of the Jasjar & I hate it, you have to reset every other week, the alarm doesn't always work. It's very slow to wake up from standby bluetooth doesn't always work & you look stupid holding it to you ear, the TyTn isn't so big as the Jasjar but it still looks a bit on the chunky side but as it is also a WM5 device I expect it to have the same sort of faults. As soon as the P990 is out I'm getting one & selling the Jasjar as I miss all the things I loved on my P910
