Two reasons I would say, they want even more distinction between 1 and 5 and/or they want to keep price in check.

They could just replace the SoC. No need to trade 105 for pathetic 60mm. |

Probably size too. The periscope module is a lot larger than a basic one. Likely a trade off between camera and battery size.

1iv earns zoom camera + larger battery inside bit shorter body.
But somehow sony cant do same for 5iv.
This is obviously to cut cost and increase margin per unit. |

Camera bump seem shorter than the previous one. GSMarena somehow omitted the image comparison between the previous gen which they do all the time. It would be good to know if the speakers are the same they use in 1IV.
Anyway just because of the flat side design I would pick this up over 5III. Yeah I love glossy green on 5III but will not buy another phone with bubbly frame. Also 5IV packs up camera tricks from 1IV which is super nice. Unfortunately it also packs up some real heat. |

Frames are from 1iii, not 1 iv. And what a horrible presentation, basically 80% of it was the behind the scenes of her music video. And whoever recorded her has no clue how to do it, so soft like high iso. |
