Is the shortcut option really that important. You should be out enjoying the main features of the phone.

I sent this to Orange:
Dear Sir/Madam I recently upgraded from a T610 to a K700i and am not entirely happy. The K700i software has been modified by Orange and this has degraded the usual Sony Ericcson flair (I will be informing them of this too). The shortcut customisation does not exist for the joystick (action button or whatever you call it). Removing the function does not make the phone better nor increase oranges income stream as the soft key change to camera probably intended. I use the calculator on the phone quite a lot but I cannot have quick and easy access without the shortcuts. The traditional 'more' softkey button as on other SE phone is changed to camera, why? this does not add to the functions of the phone, I found bluetooth and notes etc far more useful under the 'more' button. Also there is a camera shortcut button already on the side of the phone, why replicate this? Perhaps your software developers failed to notice this? Incompetence springs to mind here and heads should roll in my opinion. The same goes for the orange world desktop shortcut, there is a button on the side for this or didn't your developers notice that either. When a text message is recieved the senders name is not listed on the desktop shortcut just 'message 1'. Why? Other service providers show the senders name/number, they also allow joystick short cuts on the phone. Orange is not helping it sales or reputation with odd and inconvenient software modifications which are wholly unnecessary and do not add the the functionality of the phone. Other users I have spoken to are also flabbergasted at how orange could shoot itself in the foot and damage a potenially good phone. I await a sensible reply addressing these problems in a serious manner and am considering my contract with orange in the mean time and will be advising others to do the same. I will have this phone for the standard 12 months and if not improved upon by software upgrades or other methods it will be a constant reminder to consider other networks. Yours sincerely

I reckon if they reply at all... They'll have totally missed the mark with their reply! |

In t630 the same problem and mime is unaranded. U can set only 1 menu as shortcut. As mentioned here before: why cam, my frends and homepage incl, if there already buttons for it? Sy must be very clever at se... And the title:shortcuts! I can set only one, so its should be called:shortcut.

Well done , excellently put 'Farmerben'. I had a couple of phone calls with Orange and a couple of emails and the impression I got was that their 'CS' dep't. genuinely aren't aware of the problems with the K700i and the Orange branding. I had ordered 2*K700i and received one 2 days before the other. The second one hasn't even come out of the box after using the first for 2 days. Both are being sent back to Orange and the new contracts cancelled. I'm glad to be back to using my T610.Although I am sure I am on the earlier firmware version for the T610 I still think the key delay is not as bad as that of the K700i and buttons are easier to depress. But the best part of all with the T610 is by far the battery, it lasts a week when on continuously and used for alarm. If only I could get a T610 with a better camera and FM radio. |

well against my better judgement (mainly because i`ve read bad things about o2`s customer service), i recently changed my t610 for a k700 on orange. although the new fone is much better specced i feel the user interface is a step backwards. why have they stopped me from seeing who the msgs are from? the battery life is also quite short at the moment (although i AM playing tennis a lot lol and downloading games by the dozen). sorry i know all this has already been written, i`m just hoping and praying orange see sense and revert the fones original features as designed by s.e. rgds jon |

how long did it take you guys to get a response from orange?
I sent them a mail 3 days ago now, and not heard a thing. Maybe they are going to do something about it hence the delay in responding to me. (Well I hope so anyway).. |

| So is the only way to get 'silent' and turn Bluetooth on and off to go to the main menu and navigate through Profiles or Connectivity? |

You can hold down the hash key to enter silent mode |

Enough room on the bandwagon for one more?! I have emailed stinky Orange with this....
Dear Technical Support,
I would like to know why, on my new Sony Ericsson K700i, there are two camera buttons - one on the side of the phone, and one on the right hand soft key? I personally only need one button for it, and I would also like the option to alter the shortcuts/soft keys; this option is stated in the phone's manual (and I would also expect to be able to do it) but it appears to have been removed from the phone's software! I know I am not the only person to have commented on this (see link below) and I would appreciate a response stating how Orange intends to deal with this problem. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon. PS Perhaps you would like to read these message board entries from other Orange customers who have the same complaint: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=61978
But I'll probably just get a stupid generic reply like everyone else - oh well, we can but try!

My bro bought a new k700 today & naturally i was very excited! However as i played around with it, it dawned on me that Orange had messed up the OS! Wats the point of those crappy lil icons? They hardly make the user any more productive. And to have TWO camera shortcut buttons is outrageous! Give us back our 'More' button, Orange! I was seriously considering gettin a k700 as my contract has run out...but ill stick to my good ol' chum, the t610...(for now!)

Finally, it sounds like they might actually be listening to their customers! I'll let you know when I hear from them Kruez, hopefully they will mention the software update to me know and then we'll whether they were just fobbing you off or not...... |

Sent them a second mail and finally got a response:
"Thank you for your mail regarding the Sony Ericsson K700 i handset.
I am sorry to learn that you are unable to access the shortcut option on your phone.
I confirm that there has been a misprint in this user guide on Page 106, Personalising your Phone the following section is incorrect as the Orange version of this handset does not have the menu structure to allow these functions. I apologise for any inconvenience this error may have caused you.
I trust my mail will be helpful.
Kind regards
Steve
Orange Customer Services."
I havent finished with them yet, oh no:
"Hi. I am afraid I find this response unsatisfactory. You state that the
Orange version of the K700 does not have the menu structure to offer the shortcuts. I was clearly aware of this and this was the reason for my complaint! I am awaiting a response clearly identifying why Orange has taken this step to reduce functionality of the phone whereas other phone companies have ensured that their valued customers have received the K700 with one of the most important features that Sonyericsson had incorporated. I also wish to know whether this error on Orange's part will be rectified by a software flash in the very near future."
