i phoned CS because i thought probably its just a missing menu that could be sorted via a sim update, but after receiving the updates there was no change. also when you intially start up the phone, the sony ericsson manual states that when i press a direction on the joystick it automatically asks me to create a shortcut, but alas this did not happen.

any clues?

I know there is no short cut icon

To edit a shortcut:
1 Press the Action key and select Settings.
2 Scroll to Shortcuts and press Select.
3 Select one of the scroll options and press Edit.
4 Select one of the main menus and press Shortcut.

@spikee_3D, let us know if you find it... Did any of you have the little list of icons on the left hand side of the 'desktop' screen (not the menu icons). Do these disappear once the SIM is properly registered with Orange? cheers

My SIM is correctly registered with Orange and the desktop icons are still there, so I'm guessing they're a feature and not something which will dissapear...

And I can confirm that the 'shortcuts' option in the settings menu just isn't there, despite what Orange's own K700i manual states. The above post lists what _should_ happen, but the option's not available!

My phone currently has 'calls' and 'camera' as the two default soft keys - not 'calls' and 'more' but I can't find a way to change them. Is this just standard on Orange?

Any ideas?

i'm waiting for orange to get back to me to see if its a software problem. i'll keep you posted.

Couldn't you hit the "More" button (during the main screen) and it'll give you the shortcuts options?

the more option isnt there. apparently there should be some set up wizard that automatically takes you to a short cut option when you 1st press the joystick in a direction

You'll be please to know mine does exactly the same.

Notice when you power it up more is on the right hand key until it fully boots and then camera is there instead.

I sent an email to Orange with regard to the changes they have made to the firmware. Herewith their response!

===============
Thank you for your mail regarding the Sony Ericsson K700i.

I am sorry to learn that you feel that Orange has removed some of the more useful features of the phone.

Orange chooses to change the software on their branded phones for many reasons, some of which can effect the way the phone performs on the network. Orange offer services that the other networks do not provide and therefore have to amend some of the functions of a phone.

Whilst I can understand your concerns, regrettably there are no plans to change the software of the Sony Ericsson K700i in the future.

Kind regards

===============

Now if anyone can tell me which added Orange services are enabled by removing the shortcuts options and replacing the idle-screen more button with another camera button I would be very grateful!

Just a thought!

Hey. It is mightely annoying but only because I had a T610 before hand and got used to it with that....(I know it should be on this one too)

Perhaps you could email them again complaining about the Automatic phone lock bug...?

If I'm not mistaken automatic phone lock shouldn only prompt for a code when a NEW sim is inserted....try it and see what you get.

The response I got from orange was pretty much the same, although they've passed on my compaint to some other department!

I don't see why service providers think their customers want a generic user interface, or re-worked functions. People buy SonyEricsson for the way the menus and phone work. They don't want to find it all messed up and different!

You wouldn't want a garage selling different cars, but refitting them all with a standard dashboard!

plp E-Mail Orange customer support @ http://www.orange.co.uk/about/contact/
Let them know we r Pissed at what they have don!!!!!!
(this is the e-mail i sent 2 day 05/07/04)

I have just got the K700i and found that orange have locked the shortcut keys and soft key option! This is not good a lot of orange customers are unhappy with this as I have found out in many 4rooms. I wound like to know whether orange will be unlocking the phones so that us customers can use the phone as we all would like to.

The book states:
To edit a shortcut:
1 Press the Action key and select Settings.
2 Scroll to Shortcuts and press Select.
3 Select one of the scroll options and press Edit.
4 Select one of the main menus and press Shortcut.

I would and many others would be very happy if this worked as it is one of the main features of the phone.

Thanks 4 any help

This is a good idea.. Everyone with a K700 should email orange. Maybe they might get the idea and release a new software version.

In fact, hopefully it'll stop them from doing the same to the S700 when it comes out. They're not doing themselves any favours at all. I've just emailed orange as well, I wonder if they'll just brush me of as well.

C'mon everyone, for the sake of not ruining the S700, send the guys at orange an email!

I have also just mailed them, stating that there is already a Camera button on the side, so why do we need one on the front aswell.

Also, asked why they have removed the Shortcuts option.

We will see what reply i get

Cheers.
Alcohol is the answer.......it's the question that I have forgot.
