Well this is now out in NZ and it's overcutting the iPod Touch in price quite considerably. Here the iPod Touch retails for $498 (16GB) & $659 (32GB). That's about £190 or £250 respectively. The Sony is going for $600 & $800 (£230 & £308).
I'll probably still buy one, but are the prices this bad where you guys are?

Getting this tomorrow. Well today now... 
I'll let anyone that's interested know how it is. I was surprised to find not many videos on youtube of it actually properly in use. There's just a bunch of trade show hands-on videos which are really crap for giving you a feel for what its like.

surely its not out in NZ? Its not even on the aussie Sony site?
anyway, theres a couple walk through videos on enagdget.
uk guys, its been available in the uk for couple weeks now. check out the forums over at Head-Fi. theres a dedicated thread for it where quite a few people own it. and think it sounds slightly better than the s738, which is already one of the best sounding players on the market already.

Yep its out but in limited quantities and only in 32GB. I missed out on the first shipment. I went in today to get one and they said they'd just sold their last one. It worked in my favour though, because I ended up pre-ordering and paying for a 16GB and they decided to give me a free case and screen protector set for it, which was only for pre-orders.
Anyway they said that the 16GB is supposed to be out already so hopefully I'll have it any day now.
I had a go on a display model though and it was really responsive and the screen was nice. I had a bit of difficulty working out how to use it but I guess that comes with practise.

I could have, but I decided that the cost of a 32GB one was at the far end of ridiculousness. 16GB is four times the capacity of my current Walkman so it should suit me fine before I next upgrade.

Damn I'm getting impatient already. I really shouldn't watch youtube videos of this cause it makes the wait worse!
I'm thinking about asking whether they'll let me pay them $200 extra for a 32GB when I go pick it up. I don't see any reason why they would say no.

Apparently Sony have sold out of these all over the world. They are selling them quicker than they can make them. 
I went in to my local Sony shop to see how long mine was going to be and they said they were trying to source some from Australia, but hadn't heard back from them yet. I kind of wonder how well that will go when according to >500 and the Australian Sony site, it's not even out there yet!
Anyway I may not have this for a couple of weeks.

Yes I cant stand Apple products never liked them at all also I have loved Sony since I was a kid the quality you know you get. My Sony Hi Fi has S master digital amplifier & what a great sound it has really crisp clear clarity with a spacious feel to the sound too love it

I agree. Well I don't mind iPods, but wouldn't use them as a main music player. I like Apple though, my main computer is a Mac.
Rang the Sony store today and they're not expecting any til the end of the month.

Woooo! Finally it arrived! It's in its final few minutes of transferring my files over right now. Feels really solid and a nice heavy feel to it. It feels quality. Pictures later possibly.
