Good job! This is what I'm saying - many of the people with problems haven't even bothered doing this simple thing! I thought it odd too when I first had problems with the fastport but since realising that it just needs cleaning regularly I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

btw it's better to use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud, to avoid scratching the contact, but as you can see even a pin will do the job.

I think people with problems that can't be fixed with a good clean are a just unlucky with the way they use their phones. I accept it sucks for those people, but I'm not sure it's right to blame the fastport itself.

Im not trying to insult you is jus tthat i dont want anything hanging outside of me and most people atleast guys have their phone in the pocket thats just the place for the phone and for girls its in the purse i guess.
And i know there arent any way to fixing this the only thing is for me to buy a new handsfree and save the receipt for a couple of months and when it's time again ill get a new one from the garanty cause in sweden it means that something is wrong with the product if you use like your suppose to and it doesnt hold up for more then 1 year. Thats just like life is. And if the brainiacs at SE cant come up with a better solution this is a bad way of making money for their part! Cause ill get a new handsfree every 3 months on their count!
And yes , ill never buy a SE again.

Good luck with your new phone. Please stop by after few months of usage to give us your opinion.

@ max wedge, for the belt pouch as the safest place for mobile on the worksite I fully agree. It's sopposed to be practical, not aesthetical.

Hi

On my old k750i, which i practically never used for music had a very bad connector and the hpm-70 would loose contact, so no music was heard. But the phone was 3,5 year old so I could not really complain.

Now I got a w890 and the Fastport connector is thicker than the phone it self and is located on the side, which makes it evev wider when its in the pocket, its stupid!!

So now I will get a DS205 Stereo bluetooth headset when released in May and stop using the fastport connector except for charging.

Hi,
I think that this is why make the silly fast port like it is in the first place. That way they encourage sales of the Bluetooth headsets. Not that I mind the BT headsets,I actually like them. however, their fast port is nothing but stupid. I cannot imagine how they expect persons to actually be able to use them and have the phones in a case or pocket.
Besides that they are highly unfashionable that way.

A 3.5 MM connector would be sooo much better for listening music a la.the P910i than the silly fast port

This thread seems to have separated into three separate sub-threads:

  1. The fastport itself - is it good or bad?
One of the good things are that it will break befoer the phone itself does if exposed to external force, and on of the bad things is that it sometimes does not stay in place when it should, and that the connectivitiy may be poor if the contacts aren't cleaned periodically.
  2. The new placement of the fastport on the phone at the side instead of at the bottom. It seems that most people agrees that the placement at the side is not so good.
  3. The design of the fastport plug itself.
The plug is unnecessary big. Why does some accessories have a design of its fastport plug that makes it impossible to connect it in the port replica on the back of the CST-75 charger's fastport plug?

i've been using my w800 for 2 yrs n so far i changed 2 wired hf... da port itself is ok only problem is da way thy design the part where the wire goes into the male connector, it somehow break easily internally n 2 of my headset broke the same way... if this hpm-70 for my w960 break on me the same way as b4 im going to get the stereo bt hf, although it only got 6hrs of batt life but still better than buying so many hpm-70

everytime i put my fone in my pocket the wire always bent upward...y cant thy design the headset male connector like the USB cable...stright up...

I have experienced exactly the same thing. The earphone suddenly just went silent, and it seems like the leads have been broken at the point where the cable enters the connector body. If the cable had ben connected to the back of the connector instead of at the side of it, this would probably not have occured. SonyEricsson seems to have solved this problem by placing the fastport connector on the side of the phone instead.

I'm just stunned at the problems some of you guys are having with HPM-70. I haven't had a single problem in almost 2 years. It's still working brilliantly. Actually the other day I dropped it on the ground and accidently stepped on one of the ear buds. I bent it a little, but was able to straighten it up a bit and it still sounds just as good as it did.

Here it is, if I straighten it anymore it might break completely, so since it sounds fine and still fits snug in my ear I'll justleave it as is:
