Just gone N95 too after 4 crappy K850's
DAMN !!! Is it an amazing piece of kit.
N95 8GB only on Vodafone over here so have the N95. Its got the latest firmware so is far speedier than the 'old' N95.
Wanted an N82 but CPW (who have been damn good customer service wise with the K850 exchanges) could not extend the exchange past 15 days... mind you they were going outside their normal procedure as I'd had so many issues.
Orange refused to exchange the phone at all, saying I had to have another K850 and suffer any issues... 3 months and I'm off to another provider if they carry on like that with customers paying 200 per month bills !!
Oh well... now I have an device I simply cannot put down as it does so much ! The K850 does exactly the same as the K800, K810 etc just it had a 5MP camera... so quite boring after a few hours use. |

I can't keep my fingers off of my N95 8GB since getting it! It really is a little modern marvel huh? I really can't fathom why I didn't make the jump to Nokia earlier. I don't see myself getting bored with this thing any time soon! Just wait until Nokia releases their N-gage and Ovi platforms globally! N-Gage really sounds exciting, and from what I understand it should be like a paired down X-box Live experience, but for Nokia mobiles! Did you or Dogmann know that Nokia just released a firmware update yesterday for the N95 8GB btw?... I really want to download it, however there doesn't seem to be any support for software updates via a Mac... I guess in addition to SE designs, I'll also really really really be missing OTA software downloads.... Why nokia? Why? I thought it was supposed to be what "computers have become"?... Since when do I need to connect one computer to another, in order to update the software? Oh well, it's still a damn fine phone! Who knows, maybe we'll get the ability to do OTA firmware downloads in a future firmware update, providing I can update my software to begin with?

Maybe Vodafone removed the OTA FW update, ive got a non-branded N80 and it has OTA FW update in Device Manager (Dev. Mgr.)

Hey GUCCI! Interesting, and thanks for the advice! I looked for a OTA FW updating app on the phone shortly after getting it and couldn't find one. I did look in the device manager and happened to find the software version of the phone, however I didn't immediately see how to update my phone, and after looking around on the net assumed that I couldn't do an OTA FW update. Looking at it now after reading your post I have to say that I'm now really confused! I'm sorry, but pardon me, because I'm still really new to the whole "Nokia experience" and only have experience with nothing but Java based SE phones to draw on for reference in regards to these matters. Do I first need to configure my "Device Manager Profile" in order to do a OTA FW update?... Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Are those essentially just fancy words for the connection type needed to do a OTA FW update? Why isn't there a setup wizard for something like this? Looking at it while also trying to figure it all out is a little intimidating! If it's just the connection needed to do a update, then it makes me wonder why it wouldn't carry over connection settings from my other chosen ones on the phone?... Is it operator dependent?... I'm using an unlocked N95 8GB with T-mobile in the US soooooo......... Help!
P.S. Sorry if this is off-topic..... |

Dont worry i got my N80 4months ago before ive only had SE and Nokia Java phones.
You may need to set up the Device Manager Profile although on my phone it was already set up by Nokia when i got it so i went straight ahead and did the FW update. I think wait or ask Dogmann if he can help, otherwise phone Nokia or your Network for settings.

I have now got rid of all the VODA branding on my device but not all Nokia's have OTA FW update available. The Firmware was 107.2mb so is quite large to download over the phone plus it goes through a hardware check before installing. Head over to my N95 8GB review and The Marques also runs a Mac and has some tips both for syncing and also updating and if you have any other MAC/Nokia queries i would say he is the one to ask. Glad to hear you are happy and enjoying your new device.

Well, nothing really new on the horizon for SE, nothing that new from my current K800 anyway, I was considering the W960 but I feel I wont be happy with it and tire of it very quickly.
I think Im going to take a gamble on Nokia once again, a gamble because my last Nokia, a 7610 broke no less than 5 times in 12 months!! So time to give them a go again and I think its going to be with the N81 or N82 depending on which I like best |

I'm disappointed from SE as well. Especially from K850i. It just feels like my old K800i with a better design, but chunkier. Well the the 5mp camera is there but I don't see any big differences from my old K800 one. Just bigger photos of similar quality.
I guess I am not the only one thinking of getting a Nokia n95 8gb. Those 2 devices are incomparable in terms of features.

sorry, I am new in here.
But in my view and price, I prefer to SE compare to nokia N82. I know it is a good phone with wifi, gps etc but for the price more than $1000 in Australia compare to SE K810 $400 or K850 $600, I prefer to go to SE.
I heard from a few friends who own this nokia with gps, the gps not so good and sometimes loss signals when travelling. I rather get TomTom or Navman for GPS and bluetooth $500-600, text to speech etc with K810/K850 I guess. I know I need to carry two devices but mostly I use GPS in the car, not when walking but of course some people prefer all in one device.
In term of wifi, I don't want to view internet using this small screen for hours.
In summary, it is depend on your budget, whether or not do you want all in one or latest technology, the purpose you own this device and any other reasons and it is different for each individual.
I am sure all brands are good, SE or Nokia or Motorola or Samsung etc...but it won't suit everybody I guess and of course if an individual abuse the phone, it won't last long...
FOR ME, I prefer cost and whatever functions that I want/use so at the moment, I prefer SE.

I dont understand why the phones at least do not include a led light flash. I could live without af but no light. I almost went for the w890. Ill wait just a little longer. If no new devices from se n82 here i go. |

I had thoughts of going back to SE but the fact that my N80 is nearly on par with P1 and W960 in most features turned me away. So Hopefuly i get an N95 or N95-8GB this December.

Depends where you are from. In your country, the price variance is too much. In Singapore and other places prices may not be so much difference. The newly launched N82 is going S$988, N95 8G is S$1028 and N95 original is S$828. On the other hand, the K850i is going for S$718. All SIM-free and price is as of today.
Looking at K850 vs N95 / N95 8G (after factoring 8Gb card) the price difference is just only about S$150 or AUD120. Purely on price factor, one would be foolish not to take the N95/N95 8Gb over the K850.
If you were to wait 1-2 weeks I am pretty sure N82 price will drop 50-100.
