I don't think they'll release another 41mp cameraphone this year or next actually. I think it ends with the 1020, unless they start releasing multiple 41mp cameraphones.

I think Nokia's next step in the imaging department would be in other areas, which require a little innovation. The only way I see the 41mp module improving would be raising the megapixel count higher.

I would give the 1020 a chance if I was out for another phone, the 808 is a truly brilliant device but the 1020 just brings all the 808 has into 2013. I still don't believe the 1020 takes poor images at all and will probably show its powers come release.

^ my guess is that they will give the 1020 a "facelift" .. new screen, new SoC, same camera module and body.

If so, why? If your 808 is so perfect...

No.. I gave it to my dad since he needed a new phone. The iPhone 5 is a very good smartphone by the way.. its just not a good fit for me.

I also think the S4 Zoom a great cameraphone, however their photographic results compared to the 808 Pureview are far below average !

Here are some random pics with different ISO settings... just to show how the phone does in tricky/real life situations ..

80 iso at a concert venue

same thing at 800iso .. yes, there is plenty of noise, but I would call this acceptable for a phone.

500iso, no flash, 1/8 hand held (this isn't me btw)

160iso, flash, 1/30

200iso, flash, 1/30

I think the Nokia 808 Pureview really did became "Cameraphone Hors Concours" When it was released, and still is one of the most fantastic piece of engineering camera to date. I still believe the 808 Pureview was ahead of it's team, is virtually impossible to be beaten one day !

The 1020 Pureview, with all it's new bells and whistles obviously had to make compromises to allow for a better "smart phone" experience. Some may argue que the 808 Pureview archaic Symbian did satisfy this, but more than less will agree que Symbian is dead, and other mobile operating systems have SUPERSEDED it. Unfortunately for camera oriented users like us, we want to trend the best possible quality from our mobile handset and the expected 1020 Pureview to be an ideal upgrade choice, from the much aged Symbian 808 Pureview handset. This did not happen, and the 1020 Pureview not only did not have the amazing IQ of the 808 Pureview, but it is worst Became noise, Increased CA issues, reduced bitrate color seen in skin tone color gradients, and a far from perfect Which Zeiss Lens seems to have issues in the outer edges of the frame. All this sacrifice just to have a slimmer outer housing and optical stabilization.

One has to ask, if Damian Dinning was in charge of the Nokia Camera division today, the 1020 Pureview would have the same-outcome ?

Answer: Absolutely not !

For these and other 808 Pureview is definitely My Latest Nokia !

Here is a very UNofficial S4 vs 808 test I did at my desk....

Original images are up fist and keep in mind I didn't really tweak either phones settings other than turning off flash...

S4 chooses ISO100

808 image is ISO200

Next is a 100% crop from each image

S4

808

And for dramatics.. I magnafied by a factor of 3 (300% crop)

S4

808
