good... not PERFECT but good... there's the EVER-SO-SLIGHTEST "jiggle" which can be felt if you put your thumb on the cover and move left to right.... and when I say it's slight... I mean it is a really, really small amount of play. Just to make sure I wasn't imagining it, I even put my white one back on and if fits PERFECT with ZERO movement. My wife thinks I'm crazy because she couldn't even tell what I was talking about but then again she doesn't ever use my phone, so I guess I'm just being supercritical.

Same with my black one.. but like you say, its no big deal. I am still waiting for mine in the mail.. should be here today It looks great and its always nice to change things up a bit. People with iphones do the same with protective cases.

I've been trying to type this up for a while, but I just never have the time to put it together

I've been trying to optimize my 808 so I can get the maximum out of the platform, so I just wanted to share my current 808 set up in terms of software with fellow 808 owners here on esato, I know we are not that many, but either way..it might be helpful.

We all know that Symbian has its limitations, just like any other platform, but it has served me very well for a long time, and to this day I still think that its a very powerful and efficient platform. A true mobile OS.. not a desktop one adopted for mobile.

I am currently using this CFW

http://forum.dailymobile.net/index.php?topic=95682.0

you can find installation instruction, etc. on their blog here: http://n8delight.blogspot.de/

They've done a great job overall. The phone is very stable, the OS is fast, and it looks good.

I am using this theme with it: http://store.ovi.com/content/341933

Nice & Dark, good looking icon pack.

One of the main reasons to use this CFW, especially in the USofA, is the fact that 2 very important apps work fine on it, and not on the original firmware.

Joikuspot & google maps. Without those two I would have to switch..

Google maps is very important since Nokia Maps kind of sucks here. Their indexing is not as good as google's.. at least for now.

joikuspot is awesome, especially if you are on AT&T's unlimited data plan. I find this essential, especially if you need an internet connection on the go for your laptop.

I never really liked the multitasking view on belle, i find it inefficient, so i use this:

http://store.ovi.com/content/366936

Its much better.. since I am right handed, i put all the running apps icons on the right side, which makes it really easy for one handed use.

Another thing that i think should be part of the firmware, is lock screen controls for the music player.

I use this app: http://store.ovi.com/content/343464

And it works great

In terms of social networks I use Gravity, for voip I use Skype.

Awesome list cu015170! I have tried Delight myself but found it a bit sluggish and not stable (sometimes it froze idle while showing the sleeping screen) So I went back to the stock fw.

Some of the apps I use:

*For exercise tracking:
Sports Tracker

*For Twitter / Facebook / Foursquare / Sina Weibo:
Gravity

*For Maps:
Nokia Maps is epic here in the UK.

*For VoIP:
I use both Skype & also Google Voice through the native SIP VoIP client (in settings / admin settings / connectivity).

*For RSS and News:
gNewsReader

*For Browsing:
Opera Mini

I am looking for a fast & lightweight photo app to add effects to my pictures. I usually transfer them to my Blackberry Q10 and edit them on Pixlr-o-Matic or in Aviary as they are quicker (even for those 2mb-5mb sized photos).

Any suggestions?

As much as I love reading about your 808 experiences still using Symbian with my rose tinted nostalgic glasses, I don't think I could go back now. Ive just gotten used to the speed of Android now on my S3 for the important parts Symbian always struggled with - web browsing and social media such as Facebook. I used to use Fmobi as my Facebook client, but it was limited. Nokia's own Social app is a joke by 2013 standards.

If only the 808 came out here in the UK to the masses in 2009.

fbloise thanks for the input

Do you have to run GPSinfo or any other gps software to keep it locked when you are using Sports Tracker ? It looses gps signal on mine if I don't run GPSinfo alongside it.. they never updated the app after FP2 came out

Have you tried the built in image editor ? Also.. I think there was a way to install the old one from the N8 which was very good.. I will look into it

Yes, that makes perfect sense...

And really, its all about your perspective and expectations from the device. The gs3 is much more powerful in terms of hardware, and the software was made with the WEB in mind.. so its pretty much no contest when it comes to speed.

For me personally, I have no major issues with how Symbian performs on the 808.. at least no big enough to where I will have to switch. If you turn off java script and flash, the browsers is in fact usable.. there is also opera mobile. For facebook.. I use the mobile version of their website, and the built in post to fb from the gallery if I want to post a picture straight from the phone to fb. You can check in from fmobi..

Twitter is nicely covered by Gravity.

Still.. there are a lot of apps missing, its just that in my case they happened to be non-essential.

I just hate it when blogger start telling me that Symbian is unusable in 2013, and so on... its simply not true.

In your case.. an 808 as a 2nd device is probably your best, but then you are spending more money on toys..

Ive always wanted a 808. I don't think ive ever knowingly seen one in the flesh either since it never got taken up by the phone stores in the UK or networks.

I use my N8 almost daily still, mainly for tasks such as an alarm clock, its camera (better than any other 12 / 13mp cameraphones camera to this very day imo) and other apps and features Android doesn't have.

I also have my giffgaff payg sim card in it, which people get me on when they run out of minutes or credit as they can call me for free on it. The 808 is a much more powerful phone compared to the N8, so I can only imagine Symbian being more usable on the 808. Going back to the N8, I find it struggles even with fluid menu interface animations if I tax its little cpu with much more than simple tasks.

Oh yes.. the 808 is better than the N8 in every way when it comes to user experience When I switch from the 808 back to the N8 is a bit of a struggle.. especially the keyboard

But the camera on the N8 and the phone built.. top notch! I actually still like the DR on the N8 better than the 808.. and in some cases the color reproduction as well.

It was a very special device. Here is a nice article about it

@cu015170 about the colours, yes, N8 looks very nice and in many pictures it does seem to look better than 808.

I wonder if I should get an 808. 1020 is a bad, I doubt Nokia will release anything decent any time soon. Do you think they'll release a 1025 next year? And it'll be better? They just released the AMBER update for Lumias and the camera is software is still the same, oversaturated, grainy and noisy oil painting.

I see the 808 as the "natural" upgrade path from an N8 , not the 1020.

also the price difference is something to consider. The 808 goes for around 400 us dollars, and 1020 for about twice as much. It just depends if you are willing to use symbian, but if you are already using it on an n8, you will find that all it's shortcomings are less exaggerated on the 808 's hardware platform..

And.. You are asking the wrong person : ) i love the 808

@ cu015170 : I have not read all the topic but you still using your iPhone 5 ?

If so, why? If your 808 is so perfect...
