I hope R3 firmware released soon for K850i..
Hav try C902.
1. Touch key is more responsive than K850i
2. Overall UI response is faster than K850i
3. Laggy Media Player problem is gone. Even when you listening a music, java apps or write message still react fast.
At first, I thought that's because C902 has faster processor.
But after google searching, I realise that K800, K810, K850 and C902 are all using ARM9 processor at 200Mhz.
So maybe that's because R3 Firmware things?
I hope so
Also, it will be very grateful if they add these to K850i's R3 firmware:
1. Face Detection, Colour Reproduction and Color Saturation fix.
2. New Noise Reduction Algorithm. (K850i's NR is horrible)
3. Customizable menu icon from flash themes.
4. VGA rec @30fps (K850's IMX-020 are able to do this. It's all about camdriver!)
5. Geotagging feature
6. K850 doesn't support HGE-100 GPS Enabler. All to do is firmware thingy. Hope they will add support.
7. Add a support for MXE-60 flash accessories. Two flash blinking at the same time when taking photos will be fun! (Although it drains your battery twice faster)
All feature I mentioned is all about firmware things, not hardware things to do with K850i!
As we know for example, K770i, K800i and K810i has the same firmware revision number: R8BA024.
Maybe it will do for K850i and C902?
And I hav compared K850i initial firmware with current R1EA037. R1EA037 is much faster.
So maybe we will get C902 UI speed at K850i!
I'm dying to wait R3 firmware release for K850i!
Does anyone here knows the release date?
Thanks for your attention,
Hiron

how sure are u that the k850. I have read posts saying the k850@ 156 MHZ. can you post benchmark results of k850 @ 200MHZ |

Going to flash my phone through the DaVinci Team to:
K850i R1EA037 CID52 K850 1201-9794 CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE WESTERN-EUROPE
It's at R1EA031 but it keep restarting and on the start-up it automatically changes the theme back to the o2 one (which I deleted off the phone).
Oh and I keep trying SEUS but it still says I have the latest firmware (updated from there before).
I'm with o2 by the way.

@156mhz?
It was measured by JAce Benchmarking program, which is not accurate because it only measure based on actual performance on the software, not by reading hardware data itself.
Yes I have read that. And you can see in that websites that every K850i's user have different benchmarking speeds, including me.
When I benchmark my K850i using R1CA029 initial firmware, it gives 141Mhz.
Using latest R1EA037, it gives 183Mhz.
Run music player and benchmarking at the same time, it gives 80Mhz!
Even when I run test again in same condition, it gives varying results that ranged +- 9Mhz.
C902 reported at 199Mhz (best result from many test).
K810i reported at 221Mhz (best result.)
See what I mean?
Different firmware with more optimized code will give better results, although you use same hardware.
The benchmarking tests can be affected by many factor.
It will gives lower results if your CPU already distressed by some other process.
For example, Accelerometer Feature in K850i. It will use some CPU resources, as every 1 second it refreshes the vector value for media center purposes. And accelerometer device itself use a realtime driver that sucks CPU resources.
Many other factor is responsible to make A200 platform slower than A100.
Simple analogy: which one are faster on Pentium4: WinXP or WinVista?
But as the time goes on, the firmware codes and algorithm can be optimized to reduce CPU and memory usage, better memory management and many more.
So it's a common sense that usually new firmware gives faster speed.
Just compare initial firmware on K800 with latest release, and you will know. The speed improved a lot.
All we need to do is to give SE some time to optimized K850's firmware.
It has the same kind of problem like an old K800i, like you said before.
And all thing that makes K850i's camera sucks is because the camdriver. I have already read IMX020 sensor technical data and I think it is a good sensor, though not excellent.
IMX020 can give much better photo, it doesn't reach full potential by current camdriver.
How on earth SE put QVGA@30fps Video Recording when IMX020 are able to do VGA@30fps?
Weird and bad camdriver!
And I hope SE doesn't dissappoint us.
If R3 firmware (major fix, not minor!) dissappointed us, R.I.P K850i..
Better wait for upcoming Shiho Cybershot.
SE will make an announcement around end of June.
5 phone will be announced, including Paris and BeiBei!
Thanks

End of June??? It's synonymous to saying "R3 will come at the End of June"
whoa...
And my research says that K850 processor is ARM9, which is around 208/209 MHz speed.
So it really is in the firmware I guess.
I now believe that the K850 is the beta version for A200 firmware platform. |

Ok well I picked 'According To Language' for the language selector and now everything is in English Do you think I should flash back to the same version but with 'UK' in the title?

SE really should have had it optimized before starting production....what they have done is like selling half-baked goods!! consumers want to buy phones that work well out of the box...not ones they have to keep waiting for a new upgrade for.

I think SE have put video recording at QVGA@30fps and not VGA@30fps..not because the sensor can't handle it...but because the it would require 4 times the processing power which I feel the phone cannot handle!! Since QVGA is 320x240 while VGA is 640x480
anyways really hoping the next firmware upgrade sorts all the problems out...and improves the speed. its quite annoying to find phones that dont work as well as u you would expect them to out of the box tho!!! |

R3 will have new protection against XS++ hacking,so we will have to wait another couple of months again
