@chombos1,
For a first,stylus is OUTDATED
That's just lame.
Thats all??
@laurenke01,when using a dumb phone,u hold it in ur hands such that the thumb rests comfortably in the area around the d-pad/2/5 buttons...but when u hold a touchscreen phone u hold is such that ur thumb(which is either scrolling the jog dial) can rest around the center of the screen...both ways are easy for single hand use.In this paris...do u want your thumb easily going to touch an icon to select it or touch the d-pad and go a long way to select an icon and press the center button?
@homme,u sure its 2.6"?? Just when everyone consoled themselves that 2.8" is not bad...Oh no!!
@pk, if N96 had touch screen,would paris still beat it in specs(ok not the 16gb included)??A simple 'yes' or 'no' answer will do.

not just the "P" but the others to follow
This year(and maybe the next) will be the year of smartphones.What i feel is that SE from paris onwards will start launching a higher end smartphone every 6-9 months, and not wait 12-18 months to launch the successor(maybe minor tweaks).So paris successor might come sometime mid 2009!!...but this depends upon SE..whether it wants to keep up with competition.
@doministry,i have nothing against hardware keys,but d-pad below a touchscreen is out right stupid...for scrolling in the browser,SE has already got a jog dial or a cheap +/- key on the side solution. Maybe they included the dpad as paris has a small screen which is not very 'finger' touch friendly. |

Paris is not P5. This is not super high-end, but good mid-end with QVGA screen |

@dr_thug
I disagree on the D-Pad front... Reason being is this...
As a P1 user (as well as the previous incarnations of the P and M series) I can safely say that when I use the jog dial (whether finger or thumb, left or right) I have to slightly shift the phone in my hand from the position it sits when I am using the touchscreen with my thumb. Having a D-Pad under the touchscreen would negate that so it makes sense to me. |

I think comparing between N95 and iPhone is definately not good idea in the end.
There are too many cruical differences between these devices.
iPhone does not even have 3G and many other, basic smartphone features. Like send contact (!!!).
N95 has normal keyboard and no TS.
Plus, Pnext/Paris will bring damn good hardware, processors ect, waay beyond Nokia.
All of them are quite unique in their idea, but none of them belongs to the same area.
D-pad seems very usable honestly.
Generally I start to have very good feelings about upcoming flagship.

So this phone that we have the pics for is Paris which is not the P5i? So what is Paris's name? I know PK said that it would be different then P5i. |

Now I get lost again. So I will hope until I'll see the OFFICIAL pics of the P5i.
When is the announcement? (PK; Ares; Mizzle; M Oli...) Thanks.

You're forgetting Paris is a slider. When closed, yes, you will control the phone more easily with the screen, but when slid open--and your hands are being used to operate the keyboard--it is much easier to use the D-pad to navigate.
Also, I refuse to believe the rumors on principle (from random people no less) that Paris is not high-end until I see the specsheet. People can claim stuff all they want, but there are only a few people whose information I trust implicitly and the people with this new "information" are not them.
Plus, what does "mass market" mean? Nothing, really, other than it will appeal to a broader range of people than the X1. It doesn't mean it won't be as high-end as we expect it to be.
Another point that m-one just brought up at USEB is that there are many more UIQ devices down the road...while a QVGA/2.6" screen/mid-end UIQ phone is probably coming, Paris is not it. Plus, the rockerboard is far from "mass market," and I'd agree with that.

G905 does have a nice sound on it. Mere speculation though.
But even with 2,6'' qvga, it is an interesting device like xenia said.
Not for people that always want want want, for sure. But Beibei and Paris as Walkman/Business midhigh portfolio broadening are, if reasonable priced like the Gseries, good solutions.
