I'd go for the N95 Alan. If only for the fact that the best phone forum I've been on (n95users) is for the N95. Friendly, jokes and don't take things far too seriously like here.

While I'm all for consumers having a whinge about equipment that isn't right, this forum really is on a different level to most I've been on. Quite a hostile place. N95users make all newbies welcome, don't treat them like dunces and have a laugh with each other.

Go N95!! I would still be N95 if mine hadn't died and because I voided the warranty Nokia wouldn't touch it. On the flip, bar the camera shutter getting stuck open (a punch on the rear of the casing sorted that!) my K850 is performing nicely. More like a sideways step from the K800 though. It's no better for average usage in my opinion.

I took my K850i out with me on Saturday night as I thought it might be handy to have a camera with flash (first time in months I used it). I used it a few times, taking pics and texting but when I really needed to take a picture of a mate chatting up 3 girls way out of his league the damn thing died on me!

I took it out of my pocket and noticed it had a Bluetooth prompt (some random person must have tried to send me something) and when I said No to it the phone just went dead! I had to remove and re-insert the battery to get it back on!

Since I have a Samsung i780 and an iPhone that I use on a regular basis, the K850i did nothing to warrant using it above those two devices!

Luckily two of my mates had N95's (one 8gb and one normal crappy version) so they took some pics!

I'd agree with your advice to move to the N95. My experience with the NA version of this phone was great, but like always, Nokia seems to have things working out of the box, while SE takes quite a while to develop their premature software. It's unfortunate really, because I am loyal to SE and despite better alternatives, I'm still on a K850i.

Thanks for the replies, folks - unfortunately I'd already called them back this morning and went with a swap for a brand new K850i. I read quite a few comparison reviews between the two but on balance still prefer the SE interface and the slightly less bulky form factor. I appreciate the N95 has more functionality but my Dad has an N80 and I've never really liked the Symbian interface compared to SE (just what you're used to I guess).

Will see how this replacement one is - a lot of the articles I've read have been very positive about the K850i photo functionality so I'm hoping I might be in more luck this time round).

Agree with others that the 850 has been more of a sidestep than progress cf. the 800, although the HSDPA has been a massive boost.

Cheers

My K850i originally had the rev 029 firmware, but I updated it to R1CA037 in early January to test something. Unfortunately, that update killed the text message notification function in my MBW-100. It actually worked before the update.

Anyone know if MBW-100 compatibility is being addressed?

The N95 has been there way too long for the K850 to catch up, so expect that the N95 would be very very stable against K850. Plus, the K850 uses a new platform which I believe SE did not polished well when it was released, against the N95 which really never deviated from the rest of the N series - same old menus, same old platform, they just added some bonus feature from the rest and boom - brand new model.
I'd still go for K850.
It just so happen to be the first in the line and they just thought it was fine. Surely SE hasn't seen the rest of the nightmare yet.

Which one of these would best suit my Quicksilver k850i on O2 (UK)

I'm looking to debrand.

What's the difference between the different firmware colours (Quicksilver, Blue, Green) aswell? LED colour?

Cheers guys!

Hmm I don't think there should be a difference. Strange that they should name the firmware along with the colour.

I personally have a QSB version too and if I were going to flash, I'd just flash it to any blue or green one.

Hi guys!

I was just wondering if there are any specific circumstances / situations you should avoid if you donīt want the BROD? Iīm aware it might just hit you even if you donīt do anything at all, but what about listening to music while surfing the internet or taking pictures? Does that cause BROD, too? Or is it really all random? I had several reboots while multi-tasking and now Iīm avoiding it because I have the feeling it will eventually cause BROD.

So, how are chances to cause a BROD by using some certain features or combination of features?

ps. I really like my K850, but this uncertainty pisses me off.

don't overload your k850 with multi tasking, it has only got a 133mhz processor, unlike its main copetetor, the n95 which can have up to 350mhz. One of the my favourites, make sure you turn of your phone, take out the battery, and then turn your phone on every 3 days or so, so many people have said to me they have had less restarts, and i know that restarts always lead to a brod.
