Okay, here's a low quality mock-up how iParis would look like
We can't blame SE for not making Paris to fight for iPhone market share, it's their business decision. However, we still can sign a petition "SE, make an iPhone competitor NOW!", right? |

Dr. Thug the only other phones that can compete feature wise with Paris are N95/N96 and N82. Paris is actually better in several ways compared to those phones. It is hardly out of date and will remain current for 2+ years just like the original N95 did. So what if it doesn't have a huge screen with finger optimized UI? iPhone is more media player then phone. Don't even start me on that god awful on screen keyboard.
Dr. Thug makes a huge point when it comes to selling this thing to consumers, though. Phone geeks look at specs first. General consumers - or at least in the US, where SE is trying to make a push - really look at the overall experience of using the thing before they look at specs.
Thug is right on the money re: why iPhone is so popular. The user experience is amazing - WAY above any other high-end phone on the market right now - for the average consumer. The multitouch screen is just head and shoulders above any other touchscreen out there, and the UI is really optimized for it.
Me, I'm tired of the lousy camera and a few other things it's missing. But lots of folks who've never used anything besides a "free with contract phone" (in the US that generally means a shite phone) are drooling all over iPhone and are spending actual money on a cell phone for the first time because of it.
For these folks - and for me, honestly, for awhile - flicking a finger across the screen, browsing the Web on Safari, and looking at your photo album on the pretty display vastly outweigh the lousy camera, lack of 3G, or mediocre phone performance.
Don't under-estimate the value of user experience as phones become more and more like mobile media players & Internet terminals. User experience will drive mainstream sales in the next few years, no doubt.

 Paris is UGLY and OUTDATED.
When the industry is going finger touch screen, why put a d-pad in a finger touch device??There is no need for a jog dial either if the UI is similar to iphone.
I think the success of iphone lies in its UI and big screen and not it its poor specs like 2g and 2mpx cam and locked to a network and no legit 3rd party software.
If something good and successful is found in a competition, then why not copy the idea??
I was expecting Paris(since it was in the making for more than a year??) to have atleast 3.2" screen of similar quality as iphone, with a better than K850i cam module with a completely new uiq4 and a iphone like UI with N96 specs, minus the 16gb of course..and yes,a more professional phone looks.
Paris disappoints at every level !!
without full specs how can one say its outdated??

People: the reason for the D-pad is as simple as this: when the W960 was released, it had a jog dial but no D-pad. People complained that it was difficult to use with one hand and that you couldnt use some games etc because of this. So now theyre putting a D pad, be happy with it.
The space between the D-pad and screen reflects the outward simplicity of the handset, or at least, thats the message its trying to portray. That space is simply somewhere to put your fingers while youre using it.
Dr Thug, how is it outdated. I admit I want the UI to be abit more Iphoneish in nature, but 1 that can be sorted to an extent with themes and 3rd party apps, and 2, if youre always gonna say 'why isnt it like the iphone', then just go buy an iphone instead lol. I would be happy with a G900 UI, very happy.
The difference in keyboards is due to design variants. I suppose only PK has an idea of which was the chosen colour scheme (or those who've seen the whole video).
Finally: Stylus on the right!??? Now that I a lefty want to get a P phone they change sides! LOL! well, at least they gave me the volume control on this one
Im very happy with the way its shaping up. Remember that there is alot we still dont know about the device. So, when could the next potential announcement date be? |

Maybe you came to wrong forum?
But seriously what you say is at least strange IMO,
hardwarewise it will be miles ahead of all the devices on the market this year,
also - launching a device which is a compact, multi-tasking solution,
it would be utterly stupid to release a device WITHOUT good hardware keys,
You probably never really worked on your phone, it's pain in the a..s to have no keyboard or other keys.
And forgive me, iPhone looks nice and is well made,
but equally it's interface is usable only on simple things. |

do you have any reliable source?
because all of the shots shows 2.8" screen.
and there are some people that has been told 2.8" VGA...
btw... if it is going to be QVGA it is better to be 2.6" |

I'm still confident that Paris will be an amazing phone. One things for sure, its the best SE phone any of us have ever seen and it will satisfy most of our needs.
I find it quite odd that 50% of the people on here think that the phone should be super thin, better than an N95 and have an interface better than or matching the iPhone's, otherwise its a dud. Well, sure that'd be nice, but so far no manufacturer has matched the iPhone for UI, and I don't expect anyone to for some time. The iPhone obviously took a lot of development and it will take some time for other manufacturers to catch up. I'd rather see them develop useful things though. In regard to BEATING the N95, well thats a high benchmark to set and we know so far that it pretty much matches it. 5MP, LED flash, HSDPA, QVGA or better screen, GPS, touch screen, WiFi, etc. So far we are pretty sure that Paris has all that. Apparently its pretty thin too, and it looks a hell of a lot better than the (ugly in my opinion) N95! I don't think we can expect much more in a handset from SE yet, especially considering we've seen nothing really close to it so far.

Agreed ... I personally really like the M600i-style compact keyboard with touchscreen. And I think the inclusion of a D-Pad is GREAT. For surfing Web pages, playing games, and other navigational tasks, sometimes a D-Pad is easier than a touchscreen. HAving both should be best of both worlds.
And forgive me, iPhone looks nice and is well made,

Totally disagree ... iPhone's interface is genius. Honestly. It's so easy to use, so well done, and very capable of handling complexities. The lack of hardware buttons is one thing, but the interface itself is stellar. Especially if you have the newest version that lets you customize icons across multiple home screens (or, better yet, a jailbroken version).
